Thames crossings

the government have announced that 5 new crossings over the thames are to be built, don’t know if they are pedestrian or not but started me thinking about where they should put one if possible, that is a severn type bridge from Essex to kent, can you imagine the amount of time and diesel/petrol that would save, even if it was a toll bridge like the severn it would still be better than HGVs costs in diesel coming from Essex, left over the Dartford toll and then an equally long journey into kent, say from southend on sea to sheerness, or possibly southend to margate, now that would be a fantastic engineering acheivement, yes or no.

If I saw a proposed plan in picture with detail then yes. If its just poxy passenger bridges then no. :unamused:

Their will be a new vehicle river crossing its likely to be somewhere in the Thurrock area

A new bridge alongside the existing Dartford QEII bridge would surely be the best solution. Since the removal of the toll booths, southbound is just a doddle now unless of course there is an incident/accident. Northbound is such a nightmare with all the adjacent roads joining and converging into the bottle neck that is 4 lanes in 2 tunnels,

Like the Channel and cancelled Messina bridge it’s doubtful if they could cover that distance across the Thames Estuary in a way which wouldn’t interfere with shipping.

As for the government it’s got the stupid idea that infrastructure investment is a net wealth creator. As opposed to it actually being a net burden on the economy which has to be paid for by wealth creating industry, which we haven’t got.

QE2 /2 bridge is the obvious answer with trucks then being banned from the tunnels. :bulb:

Meanwhile, somewhere at this very moment a young couple are toasting their first new home, a bijou up and coming executive residence on a lovely exclusive plot of 40,000 identical sheds called The Meadows, though there arn’t any meadows to be seen for miles cos they built over the sods… :unamused:

Is there going to be any small piece of green left in the south east when they’ve eventually thrown their utopia up.

Was this news broken by the new champions of the working class perchance, the NuTory party led by Wonder Girl.

I’m still trying to weigh up what was worse, new tory tony from 1997, or Theresa may and her championing of all things working class. such as school selection by SUV :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Correct Me here, you are a man of considerable wisdom, was it not in the remit of a home secretary to cut immigration

And as she whole heartedly failed, not with standing the EU migrants, but did she not allow in 180000 from other parts of the world last year, and she is supposed to be the most competent politician, god help us :unamused: :unamused:

Trees’a Red Trees’a green all you can be sure, is that Theresa’s Blue

I can’t get the link on to this page, but on tfl’s website, it tells you about the proposed crossings that are supposedly being built along the Thames. Even got an email a while ago about it from tfl…

I think Juddian means it’s all just part of a bigger picture and agenda that’s all about over developing the South East to keep the North an under developed wilderness.Which seems spot on.

When what many here would like to see is let’s give the South East a rest and find a way of shifting much of all this growth Northwards.Like massive expansion of East Midlands and Manchester airports and new towns and regeneration of the North Sea ports like Hull to provide more and faster direct access to the continent instead of it being sent through Kent.

they would need to sort that poxy M6 out first, worst motorway ever,2nd the M25

Carryfast:
massive expansion of East Midlands and Manchester airports.

Why not expand Doncaster airport?
It already has the 2nd longest runway in the UK, and can already accommodate the largest passenger jets, part 1 of the new airport link road from the M18 has just been completed with construction of part 2 getting underway now, so it’s not as if the infrustructure isnt in place, all that’s needed is an expansion of the terminal building

Absolutely nothing, I was responding to part of Juddians post. Sorry if I’ve offended you, or broken forum rules, though I didn’t read the bit that’s states, thou shall not respond to part of a post within a thread, if it is not directly related to the OP :unamused:

I suppose it comes down to cost CF, Hull and Immingham, have easier access to most of the country north of, probably Northampton, but the length of the crossing and the time and expense that’s incurred is probably what would hold that back, and why they do more unaccompanied trailers than drive through’s. All the same I think they are both a better option than bloody Kent

you will never educate drivers, especially car drivers,my point is if it isn’t accidents its bloody roadworks,in all the years I have driven on the M6 I don’t think its ever been clear of roadworks
