Texting lorry driver jailed after crashing into van on A27

You protest too much Rob. One wonders exactly why. I agree on the difference between technology and what seems like change for changes sake, but the truck is a workplace like any other, along with all the duty of care it brings. You can’t scratch your arse whilst serving in Greggs, so why should you be allowed to weave all over the road in a truck whilst doing the same? If it results in a (road) accident, then camera has you bang to rights. Which is fair and right, but if you weren’t scratching, but the steering problem that the fitter said was in your head has caused it then it is there on screen.
It is not an invasion of your privacy…you don’t get privacy at work.
If it stops even some of the texting boneheads then I say make them mandatory. Sorry mate.

Jailed for 3 and half years and justifyably so, but this idiot gets only 4 years for killing a child in hit and run when he should get a lot more. manchestereveningnews.co.uk … r-18873571

If you wanna…

Kill someone, run them over. Much lesser punishment which is ridiculous.

Ten year minimum for stuff like that.

Your’e dead right I protest too much, and I thought I’d made it crystal why.
Love it when somebody objects to something as intrusive as this then they…‘‘Must be doing something they shouldn’t’’ :unamused:
Nothing to do with having a bit of pride and having your professionalism grossly insulted though eh?
If what you say is right that you are no longer entitled privacy in your truck whilst tramping, then maybe it’s time for us with a bit of self pride and respect to jack the whole thing in , and leave the job to the bending over borgs.

I do see the issue with the perceived intrusion, but surely these things are selective in what and when they record?
I just see it as a self preservation device. Would not want to be on the end of a big claim for negligence when I was just scratching my ear.

Managed ok so far, I’ll just stick with proving innocence myself if needed.
For every one occasion these atrocities have worked for the driver.s benefit, there are another 100 where they have ■■■■■■ up their day.
Don’t believe the management hype and b/s, they are NOT there to work for you, they are there to catch you out.

I’ve said before as an example… have a ■■■■ big old noisy exaggerated yawn, have an rta 2minutes later totally unconnected by that yawn, and wait for the …‘Should not have been driving tired’’ accusations to come in an enquiry .
There to protect you my arse.

Exactly this, 100% agree. It is an invasion of privacy and ■■■■ all to do with HSE requirements.

Let’s hope this teaches a lesson to all other drivers.

It’s a shame this is now coming up as an age restricted video with google wanting to verify peoples ages to view it (or get their credit card details) surely it would be better for this sort of thing to be shown in the classroom to prevent the next generation from thinking It’s still acceptable to be playing around with these toys while driving?

Couldn’t agree more

There are two drivers in hospital and four dead horses on the A9. I don’t think the horsebox reversed into the lorry!

Perhaps the prison ■■■■■■ staff he crashed into will be the ones who ■■■■■■ him to jail! Maybe he can have a reunion with the prisoner he injured!

Freightroute, I know those guys, they do a lot of DG work so that would only make it even worse for the driver, can’t see any orange plate in the picture though. I went to work for them through an agency a couple of years back, there’s about 100 pages of H&S (no, that’s not an exaggeration) to sign before you get anywhere near the cab. Guess he skipped a page or two

EDIT: he was only ten miles from the yard, guess he was celebrating a good day’s work and thought they wouldn’t notice when he handed his keys in

Ive tried. They always see the headlights first and dive to safety.

No excuse for fitting driver facing camera ,there is far to much spying now, there was a time when you could just get on with your job it got done .
