Test reversing manoeuvre set up wrong!

Passed my C+E last month, I was the second test of the day, The chap to go before me was doing his Cat C and was parked ready to go and perform the reverse . The area had been set up by the tester . Watched them walk out from the building and to the vehicle , he answered his question and then began the test. He stated to reverse and it soon became apparent he hadn’t got over to the left enough as when he was turning hit hit the cone and knocked over the pole! Me and my instructor were saying oh no poor ■■■■■■■■ failed but we could see his position was wrong . Anyway they carried on and he made his way out of the test centre for the driving part. At this point I lined up ready to drive onto the reversing area , my instructor took me for a a quick walk of the area and he noticed that the A cone was not in the correct position!! Making the area to narrow to complete the manoeuvre .

Obviously I then had to complete my test , which considering I was nervous, I had an excellent drive [emoji16].

I asked my instructor what happened and he said that he was passed! He obviously had a good drive as well , but considering he thought he had failed I think he done well!

Obviously I’m not going to reveal where this happened or when!!

Could you be a bit more specific about what was wrong with the A cone position because cones A & A1 (the start position cones) are positioned differently for Cat C and CE. The distance apart is the same for both but where they are placed in relation to the right hand yellow line is different.

The A cone wasn’t set far enough from the line i think so he didn’t have enough space to come back to the left.

With Cat C the A cone is placed on the right hand yellow line and A1 is x 1.5 the vehicle width to the left. This is generally set at 3.6 mts.

For CE cone A is typically a couple of feet to the left of the line with A1 the same distance away.

In fairness over the years I have seen areas incorrectly set up but unless it’s well off the problem is usually driver error

I faild my category c test last month for knocking the cone with the pole over and I think it was due to incorrect position of the cones. Also on the drive I made 2 minor mistakes and still had a fail as knocking a cone over on a reversing exercise is seen as a serious fault. So I think the examiner must have seen his error and passed him. I passed 5 days later and had no problem with my reverse so still believe it was set up wrong.
