So I know the examiner will take your licence and issue a certificate which is essentially your licence until your new one returns in up to three weeks time but how does it come about? Does the examiner destroy the old licence and upgrade it via computer? Does looking for changes in your licence status online give a clue as to progress? Should I be worried if nothing has happened within a week?
It takes around 2-3 weeks .Mine only updated a day before i recieved it.
No need to worry, it will be taken care of.
As Beetlejuice rightly says it will be two-three weeks.
Mine was just under three weeks, I checked daily online and nothing had changed until it arrived in the post.
I was told all passes from the centre are sent together at end of the week to the DVLA.
Don’t know how true this is, mine updated two days before licence arrived.

On passing, your licence is shredded at the test centre. The paperwork is sent off daily. Very often the new licence is issued in around a week but this can be checked online. Perfectly legal to drive on pass certificate (assuming Mod 4, if needed, has been passed).
Hope this helps, Pete
I was wrong then, oh well. You live and learn.
