So far maybe not, but itll come, as others have said. And for trunking / inter-depot itll not be needed. Recharge when tipping loading at either end?
I don’t imagine it would be too difficult for vehicles to exchange their battery packs for a previously charged battery pack if it was designed into the vehicle, for example on an underslung cradle which slots into the front of the vehicle.
Trouble is, how many drivers will do that. The amount these days that won’t change a light bulb is astounding

Tesla have innovated and expanded far more in the few years they have been running than the likes of BMW have in 100 years.
The main manufacturers quite rightly should be very worried.
Tesla, founded 2003, first car produced 2008.
Now has a 7 billion dollar revenue
BMW founded 1916, first car produced 1928 approx
Now has 94 billion dollar revenue.
I’d say for being 90 years behind, tesla are doing pretty well.

Personally I think the first statement is rubbish. BMW have pioneered in so many areas in the automotive field it makes that opinion a bit of a nonsense. Apart from the power pack Tesla cars aren’t doing anything radically different to more standard cars. They’ve moved battery tech on a fair bit yes but more innovation than 100 years of BMW? No.
A better test will be if Tesla is still around and the world’s largest luxury car maker in 100 years, as BMW is now. One thing Tesla is the best at is hype. They’ve remarkably few cars on road, a Gigafactory that’s running way over due with massive cost over runs and they’re struggling to produce the small range they have as it is without adding a truck to the line up
Yes they’re an impressive company but better than BMW? They’ve produced nothing to warrant that claim yet.

I think if you compare the model s, with higher production costs, to the i8, you have to give the Tesla the edge. The starting price is £40k less, with as I said, a much higher production cost due to the smaller infrastructure of the company. I think they’re on the up and up. Once they make a rival to the family saloon market, they will really kick up a gear
That’s comparing apples and oranges though, the i8 is aiming at a market completely different to the S. Tesla want to get cars put there and get some money in, BMW want the i8 to be seen, they don’t need to sell many and certainly don’t need the money. When they bring out an electric 5 series then we’ll have more of a like with like.

Surely the point is that Tesla have had their electric 5 Series equivalent, the “S” on the road for 5 years now? BMW are ■■■■ good cars, and a successful company, but in this sector Tesla are ahead by a country mile.

I’m not the one who brought up the (in my opinion pointless) Tesla vs BMW debate to be fair

No but you quoted and said it was rubbish, which it isn’t as several people later pointed out.
Dont reply to something if you can’t take the retorts when people point out you are wrong.
Tesla have innovated far more than just the batteries… Autonomous driving, crash protection, in car infotainment, energy harvesting systems plus much more. And all this in under 10 years.

I’m not wrong. When I find time I’ll compile all the innovations in the auto industry BMW are responsible for. Theyre an impressive company no doubt but let’s not go over the top and make out theyre the best thing since the invention of the wheel. When they pump out 2 and a half million cars a year and employ 130,00 people across the world AND through all that manage to maintain their reputation I’ll think even more of them. They’ve some way to go though.
Elon Musk has a bee in his bonnet about BMW so this is probably why you brought them up to be fair. He did later retract his daft comments though

I think the s and the i8 are being aimed in the same direction
A two seater (almost) supercar and a 4 door saloon? They’re radically different cars to be fair
Different cars but aimed at the same people. Rich middle aged executives who want to give off the appearance that they care about the environment. I just think the Tesla has the edge on those stakes, hence how common they have become in a short space of time. I’m not arguing about BMW being a bigger and more important company, just saying that Tesla have already landed the biggest blow in the electric stakes
We have a Nissan Leaf and I think it’s great. Didn’t buy it for the eco status but the running costs and the type of driving my wife does.
An electric car is ideal plus we get to borrow a combustion engine car for 2 weeks every year off Nissan if we want to go further afield.
The PCP is up later this year and I’m really interested in the Tesla model 3 but didn’t get the deposit down to reserve one so it will be too long to wait for one.
Elon Musk is someone who’s prepared to be judged by his actions and not just his words. If you have time look up a previous documentary (I think it was on the discovery channel) you’ll see he certainly isn’t a flash in the pan.
