Tesco Virgin

Well not anymore, did a stint in Weighbridge through a subcontractor. Decrepid unit and a brand spanking new trailer. Started my shift at 06:30, got the paperwork at about 7am. Had to deliver to Crawley with the delivery time of 16:52(?). WTF I thought, what am i going to do till then, decided to get down there anyway, just as well, 2 other artics already waiting, another one turns up shortly after me and then a fridge turns up. Being New Years Eve and me being a good Samaritan i decided to let the oter 2 go ahead of me, then one of the back door chaps comes over and asks if it’s OK for the fridge to go ahead of me. Sure why not, as i devised a plan. On the bay after a few shunts(bloody tight yard) and tipped/backloaded. Back in weightbridge for 14:30, dumped the trailer and went in to hand in the paperwork, ‘Thank you very much drive, you can go home now’. Brilliant, that was just what i needed to hear.

But the same may well have been said if you had decided not to let the others in, and got back to the depot earlier.

Less hours for the same pay.

Ken.

Welcome to the club Paul, that’s what I do Mon to Friday at Tesco Goole depot. You won’t always be sent home early though, many times you’ll get back after a first run expecting to go home then get sent to some far flung shop that involves a 15 hr day :frowning:
Must say I still enjoy the job though, even if some of the shops yards are shall we say a challenge. :open_mouth: Nice easy work & they leave you to get on with it

Most times on day rate, they want 12 hours out of you or 2 runs. Being New Years eve you probably did the right thing as there wouldn’t have been much more work going out the later you got back. I wouldn’t do what you did on a normal day though as they’d probably still expect you to go out on another run.

They did say the usual is 2 runs but on New Years Eve there wasn’t that much to do, got to admit that it’s a bit chaotic and i’m not that impressed with loading the open cages to the max with bottles etc and only having one strap holding it together. It makes for a very careful unloading. You’d have thought that a company this size would have all the ‘correct’ equipment.
