Tesco pull out of the US!

Tesco to sell their £1bn Fresh and Easy chain in the USA!

Shall we have a whip round then?

Dam, I used to love popping over for a BOGOF.

tesco are relly not having a good time of it theses days, was’nt long ago thay were the golden retailer that could’nt put a foot wrong. thay stores here in the uk are getting… messy I think is the word I would use. too much clutter randomly chucked and plonked everywhere. there own packageing is awful. safeway devloped that same kind of problem for years befor it even got into real trouble. tesco stores are beging to look so sterial like a dental surgary compared to what others like sainsburys and waitorse are fitting out and building now.

shows how easy it is to get complacent in retail. and how much it costs to just keep up with the compertion. was 1 billon !! :open_mouth: yes 1 billion the tesco top bass said thay were going spend just revamping all the stores over the uk. crazy amount of money. and no garentee it will work ither :unamused: the america thing has cost them dearly should have used that money to do the revamp here as its played out now. u.s market is a very hard thing to crack, retail wise anyway.

I wonder if they’ll get their £1bn back when they sell the chain on?

Didn’t they make a loss in one of the Asian markets as well?

Companies come and go, Sainsbury’s used to be the biggest UK supermarket chain, then had a few problems and Tesco were on the rise, I think Sainsbury’s went for a major overhaul, new top brass etc and seem to be on the rise again.
The same with Marks and Spencer they were in trouble, they had an image problem about being old fashioned and dowdy, again they had a major re-vamp new clothes range aimed at group that has money and wants style and adverts on telly with models running round in their undies hasn’t done their profile any harm.

I find that side of business fascinating, even if you’re the biggest of companies you can’t sit back and think that the customers will walk through the door. You have to keep you eye on the ball and your competition.

Sainsburys have just built a massive new store here in Leigh in replace of their old one. Definatly looks to be an improvement. There was a time when Iceland were failing and now they are on the up although its debatable how long they will continue to compete with the big supermarkets, they have recently had new investors buy in too when that Icelandic bank went bust, which means Malcom Walker the main man now owns most of the share for iceland, which is worrying.

Asda seem to be slipping a bit standard wise, messy stores and bad quality food. Morrisons is just crap. The wife now shops at Tesco although the stores are quite cluttered.

I think we may see a rise in folk going to the local butcher etc for good quality local foods.

Just my thoughts.

Its been on the cards for a long time with these companies Personally the way they treat US is enough for me not to shop and tell my family not to shop at their stores.

Thing is despite numerous complaints we give them at DC’s and companies complaining they refuse to change.

There are numerous posts on here about what DC’s we like and don’t maybe its time for T and D to do a 2 page spread or maybe more? on what we experience and facilities we get and get the companies to try and defend their decisions, maybe then some of these large chains might think about why they loose customers. However seen as one of the new managers monitors my posts on here ( HELLO BOSS :smiling_imp: ) I cannot name and shame any of them. He likes the whole Bringing the company into disrepute wording :frowning:

Has T&D ever done anything as regards RDC facilities or attitude to drivers? My guess if they haven’t is fear of litigation!!
