Tesco pay - Avonmouth

From the horses mouth, its £12 from September of this year +25% between 22:00 and 06:00 +25% for weekends and 25% for anything over 42.5 hrs.

You can either take the overtime as paid or you can bank hours for additional time off the rota has a 10 week cycle with 4 weekends off.

All training medicals licence and digital card renewals are paid for, the work is not particularly heavy in fact its a piece of p@@@ you don’t have to do overtime if you don’t want to, its a great big holiday camp the only thing missing are the redcoats and the knobbly knees contest.

On the driving assesment look in the mirrors so often it looks like you have parkinsons (particularly when moving off) and get out to check the 5th wheel height before coupling and the assessor will want to elope with you.

PM me if you want further details.

Do you work in this depot mate? If so, do you know what hours they need covering?

There are 40 or so vacancies across most of the start bands, most of the work goes out in the afternoon and early evening, the early A.M starts are usually done by the drivers who have been there for years or the sick lame and lazy, however the one stop work may have created more positions for day drivers.

Feel free to PM me.

i would say so
our depo and i’m sure the rest are 50%

If you’re Dagenham based there certainly wasn’t a 50% premium on rates in the early days there. I guess they’ve had to bite the bullet and pay more to attract drivers as they clearly got the rates wrong there. Don’t make the mistake of assuming all depots pay the same rates they never have and they never will.

I was there from day one and we always had overtime and bank hols + day in lieu at 50%
still got the original contract.

When I worked for Tesco we were on annual hours, it was a really good deal, I can’t remember the hourly rate exactly but I know if I worked a bank holiday when I was not scheduled I was on 29 quid an hour plus a day off in lue.
We worked the first week of the period for 6 shifts of 7 hours, second week was 5 days, 3rd week was 4 days, 4th week was 3 days, 5th week was 2 days, 6th week was 1 day and we had the 7th week off, if we worked a day we were not scheduled we were on time and a half all day, we made fantastic wages. I don’t know how much it has changed ?

If you didn’t want the time and a half for an unscheduled day you could take single time and an extra day added to your holiday pay.

7th week grab a grand week as they called it. LOL.

That wasn’t what they were advertising at the time I can assure you.

Tesco must be pretty desperate - ads all over the walls in the gents at Winchester northbound yesterday - CE drivers required.

Crikey where do I sign up lol sounds fantastic! The only thing that worries me about tesco is the 4 weekly pay - i’m not sure how well that would work with my situation and i’m not sure if I could not have a set payday each month. Need to do some thinking…

Why not just wait till they tell you at the interview ?

May not be worth going for the interview, a lot of their drivers left a few years back when they shut down the Harlow and Welham Green depots, they offered the staff the move to the new East London depot but had to reapply for their jobs at £2 an hour less.
Maybe they learnt a lesson after that?

It’s ALWAYS worth going for the interview imo, even if you have no intention of taking the job, it’s all good practice for the one youdo want.

That’s true. Yes I will go, just still a bit unsure about the whole 4 weekly thing that’s all.

Yeah, the 4 weekly pay really messed me up sometimes but on the good side it sort of meant 13 monthly pay packets
I don’t know if they still do the annual hours deal or not ? I left in 1997.

From what I see on trucknet, when someone posts these ads etc or asks about the pay and conditions they never actually apply.

We get payed every 4 weeks and it seems to come around quicker and we don’t find it a problem and one month you get 2 pay days ad previously mentioned. I think the wife did adjust some direct debits to suit .

Oh I’ve definitely applied and have an interview at the end of the month, just wanted to know a bit more that’s all. Never good to ask too many questions about money in an interview lol

Yesh that’s true - I think we can make it out but will just have to move things around a bit. 2 pay days in a month sound good lol
