Judging by the spelling I wouldnât be blaming your 'puter
NP, you confused me, thatâs all.
I donât know the trurh behind this story, you get a conflicting story from each side and probably very few people know the full story as each side include info hat shows them in a good light and exclude info that shows them in a bad light. I do know that whenever a large company like Tesco try to change a contract it is never a move that is designed to reduce their bottom line profit.
As a tengential thread, did anyone see the programme on TV in the week where the undercover reporters ( BBC ) made secret recordings after taking a job in Tesco and Sainsbury, donât think I will ever buy fresh meat or fish from a supermarket with confidence in itâs quality again ( just glad I donât like shellfish or prawns so never buy them ).
scania245:
the way tesco are playing only immigrants (no speak english) scabs yes u know who you are nobody forced you into tesco wagon and you knew what was happening before you took the job is it really worth the bother for ÂŁ3 an hour less [zb] mugs will work there at least no decent drivers with a social consience and a respect for fellow drivers will cross a picket line . work for tesco id rather sit in the house.
the insurance companies will be watching their own stocks rocket
my agency wont even ask me to go in there. they know my feelings regarding tesco
i saw a few yesterday all being pulled by subbies who received a sign of my disapproval of them crossing the picket line. business is business but these are small operators or O/Ds who should be siding with the drivers, not tesco

i didnt see it but i would hazard a guess that it was about the amount of time it takes to get fresh produce from the truck to the fridge or where its left once off the truck
Nice to see the drivers are sticking together on this one âas usualâ
I was in a situation some years ago exactly the same as this one is at an RDC where the senior management told us to accept a new contract which was nothing like the one we had and when all the staff voted to reject it on a ballot of something 98% against it, the management told them to have another vote and accept it or they would implement a new contract with 90 days notice with worse terms and conditions that were being offered whether they liked it or not.
To rub salt in the wound they also said anyone who doesn,t accept it will face dismissal without the right to unfair dismissal as they will have been deemed to have terminated their own contract voluntarily.
Also there would be NO REDUNDANCY as the RDC was not in the position of a staff headcount / reduction and it was purely a cost cutting exercise to increase profits for the company and divdiends for shareholders and had nothing to do with workers pay scales till they told us that all new employees would be paid a lower rate than existing ones as they âlegallyâ could not implement a pay cut except in exceptional circumstances such as âto save the company financiallyâ and even then only by agreement with the workforce.
We then had the situation where we had two pay scales and it is not very nice working alongside someone who is getting paid a lower rate than you for the same job.
I hope that the union wins this one as it is time the workers stood up to these bully boy tactics of Tesco management and just a passing thought to ask the perpetrator of this ânewâ contract if it is ACCEPTED under duress as ours was WHAT FINANCIAL BONUS IS HE / SHE getting from the co. for implementing it?
Also as an aside on this when one or two of our drivers signed their âNew Contractsâ they wrote on the contract âaccepted under duressâ and were immediately told to sign a new statement / contract âwithout that statementâ or face âinstant dismissalâ on what grounds we never found out!
We have just had a year long car strike because Barnsley Council decided they were skint and ripped all essential car users contracts up and issued new ones at a lower rate - a contracts not worth the paper its written on.
MrReliable:
Can just see a queue of workers waiting to get in when the strike starts.ÂŁ500 will be a big down payment on an apartment in warsaw.![]()
and what makes you think it will be poles scabbing,if history is anything to go by there will all the british scabs you want prepared to cross the picket line.leopards never change their spots.

as much as it pains me, i agree with this statement
the way i see it, its tesco v ALL drivers. they have the opportunity to take a bite out of tesco and make them realise that they are not infallible. any driver that has crossed that or any future picket line is a traitor. anyone who stands up against tesco has my support
deleted post, as i was talking rubbish

Not quite sure how you figure that out Comrade Richie
they have the opportunity to take a bite out of tesco and make them realise that they are not infallible.
Whilst a company changing employees contracts in a draconian manner and slashing pay is not very fair, at the end of the day Tesco are doing what the law allows them to do. Best take that one up with His Royal Tonyness
any driver that has crossed that or any future picket line is a traitor.
If the picket line is legal and legitimate because a company is breakingt he law (see above) I would totally agree
anyone who stands up against tesco has my support
Anyone who has the integrety and balls to stand up to any company or person behaving innappropriatley or illegaly(again see above) has my respect and if necessary my support
FYI I dislike Tesco and there business practices immensley but I choose to show my opinion by not giving them my money and many friends have stopped doing so when told a few âHome truthsâ
fozzie i saw three picket lines and quite angry drivers at every wagon in and out all subbies do the maths 65 sacked 80 on strike what tesco drivers were driving that day the 80 on strike have been told to stay away for 7 days after end of strike for a cooling of period a strike that tesco claims is illegal anybody think there hr dept is on overtime

its common knowledge that tesco do not respect drivers. in this case, the drivers have the opportunity to show tesco that they need us whether they like it or not which means they are representing any driver who has any dealings with tesco whether delivering to them or for them. they can deliver a message to them from all of us ie without drivers, they dont have a business

I agree

I see . That may be as you see it but they are not representing all drivers but merely representing there unhappiness in a localised dispute concerning there jobs and conditions.
Surely following your line one would expect all Tesco drivers to picket and strike at all Tesco depots in solidarity with there downtrodden collegues. Donât see that happening do you â â ?
So why should a localised disagreement prevent many other drivers from simply doing there job unhindered
After all if there comrades donât support them why should everyone else â â ?
I for one have successfully taken a stand against Tesco and won on a transport issue. None of the others involved had the balls or confidence and so they got nothing but somthing else to moan and whine about to each other. I approached the issue in a firm âprofesssionalâ and legal manner with them and the situation was satisfactorily resolved
So get off your soapbox Richie the 1970âs, crippling strikes and the 3 day week want you back.
Oh sorry forgot your too young to know about that
So if drivers are in a local dispute, those who think thatâs a local problem should just ignore them and drive through the picket line?
So because I get home every night I should not care that my fellow drivers are being ripped off, stolen from, beaten up, etc at service areaâs?
If I dont go into RDCâS why should I care if they have to sit on plastic seats for hours or be ignored by supermarkets?
As a matter of fact, I care very much about these issues!
I have been a driver for over 40 years, I am ashamed that in this industry there are those who have so little concern for their fellow drivers that they choose to treat them with such selfish contempt. As for calling Richie, âComradeâ, should I call you Margaret (as in Thatcher)?
Here in Scotland that is a gross insult as she is held in contempt by 99.9% of Scots. As for his âToninessâ the people of Scotland have given him a parting gift to celebrate his years of mis-rule, his name is Alex Salmond.
The Tesco drivers are representing us in a fashion, those who have been in this industry for many years and who have had the balls to spend a few weeks on strike with loss of pay (on more than one occasion) to upgrade our conditions will tell you that it is only possible if we are united. United we stand, divided we fall. We cant have the repect our job is entitled to if our fellow drivers dont respect a drivers picket line.
Be a man, dont cross the line, or hang your head in shame.
Alex

Unless they belong to the same Union and have been requested/ordered into doing so I believe it to be the drivers own choice and he should be no more demanded to cross by his boss than not to by the pickets ( a simple matter of mutual respect). I personally would not cross it if I was in full understanding of the circumstances and supporting of the dispute

As do I tremendously and passionatly in fact and nowhere above did I elude that I did not
I am ashamed that in this industry there are those who have so little concern for their fellow drivers that they choose to treat them with such selfish contempt.
As again am I BUT I am more than equally disgusted with the behaviour of my âfellow driversâ. Driving like selfish baffoons with little to no regard for road safety or the image of the profession
The lazy gits who â â â â up the wheels instead of walking to the toilet , then complain about the facilities. The litter louts. The 10 mile ,my lorry is 1/2mph faster than yours, overtakes. As for the facilities in RDCs I am in them everyday and I could not care less because if they give drivers nice facilities they get smashed, graffitied and abused
As for calling Richie, âComradeâ, should I call you Margaret (as in Thatcher)?
If it makes you happy

and fair play to you all North of the border for that
The Tesco drivers are representing us in a fashion,
Why â â How will a victory or defeat impact the industry exactly â â
Will it increase our wages, improve our conditions, reduce RDC bull at Livingstone. Sadly I think not
those who have been in this industry for many years and who have had the balls to spend a few weeks on strike with loss of pay (on more than one occasion) to upgrade our conditions will tell you that it is only possible if we are united. United we stand, divided we fall.
True in a fashion provided the next time I am involved in a dispute the drivers at Livingstone are standing around a burning barrel right next to me
We cant have the repect our job is entitled to if our fellow drivers dont respect a drivers picket line.
Be a man, dont cross the line, or hang your head in shame.
Our respect would be infinatly greater impacted upon by the points mentioned above not to mention a little more intelligence and less bullying
