Tesco Drivers On Strike

it has been reported on the radio tonight that tesco have announced that 70 of the striking drivers will not be having their contracts renewed and will no longer work for tesco

Is that the 70 that actually signed the contract in the first place ■■ Since they had already sacked 83 for not signing in the first place.

If so in the space of a week they have then sacked all 150 drivers.

not really a fan off tesco drivers done agencey with them arrogant lazy chaps that look down on agencey workers cause we earned less than them anyway that was years ago but i think they were misinformed by the tgwu concerning 90 day notice ive had this sign date was 18 may strike date set at 24 may if u dont sign notice at set date u sacked ure self 65 drivers were informed by letter delivered by taxi on said date no job stobarts/tesco2 drivers having a windfall went and supported all pickets today WHY becuase its the last bastion off driver resistance up here in scotchland they cant win and wont win im afraid the 65 drivers talked themselves out off a still well paid job even after adjustments most off us haulage guys would trade for our conditions now the guys that were looked down on by tesco men are delivering the coup de grace to there industral actions the wagons are going in and out the rdcs with just a bit verbal that in time will diminish quikly as the ones on strike an still employed do a reality check an smell the coffee if theyed thought about it they might have won no support . it aint happening

wheres the tesco drivers not on this site anyway

If a big company like Tesco wants to change a drivers contract theres not a lot the unions can do, as long as the minimum period of notice is given. If the drivers strike they are breaking their own contract with an illigal industrial action and face the consequences! I have been a T & G member for 20 years and have been through similiar situations. Getting to a legal strike situation is very rare these days. If you work at an older super market RDC with not so flexible working patterns, generous overtime payments your days are probably numbered. Its happening near to me, Tesco are building new depots just across the road from older ones and the employees are offered new jobs or redundancy.

Opinion please Peeps, I’ve got a Tesco Model on Ebay at the moment -180121876238. Tonight I received this message via Ebay messaging -

“Hi,just wanted to point out that Tesco Livingston drivers are right now out on strike because of this new distribution centre. These adverts are not popular to say the least. I hope that you do not offend any of these drivers”

I am in no way Pro Tesco, I am also a life long Trade Unionist although now redundant/retired. I made this model at the request of someone and decided also to put one onto Ebay, very much biting my tongue within the sale screed and keeping it relative to the model. My problem now is should I withdraw the Model from sale because ‘it supports Tescos’ , or should I keep it on because it is an actual livery which is the only reason for it being made, and neutral to the dispute ?.

Keep it on, it’s got nothing to do with the strike.

why are the dropping wages and sacking drivers? if my logic is correct, they are lowering wages which means they are paying the same as anyone else. that means that drivers have no reason to fight for tesco so they may not get the drivers to replace the existing ones. the definately wont if there are any others like me who wont drive for them at all.

if you are offered a contract and refuse it without taking any action tough luck

if you are offered a contract and you dont like it AMEND IT then the ball is in their court to accept or decline

offer and acceptance just bartering on a different level

no excuse for Tesco to reduce the pay rate not on their profit level

Tesco’s side of the story is that existing driver’s wages will not be affected.
New drivers joining the company, will be paid £3 per hour less, for doing the same job.
No doubt, there will be plenty of Poles etc. queueing up to replace any dismissed drivers and work for the reduced rates.

Well as Drew pointed out Tesco have “invaded” Poland so it would only seem fair

So I guess the answer to what is the difference between Tesco and Germany is - not a lot?

Well Hitler did top himself, unfortunately I can’t see Sir Terry doing the same - but there is still hope!!

i have just got back from there i was doing it for them during the strike it was a load of rubbish all shouting and about 6 people on each gate

i was told that the money was dropped by 5 grand ad 60 wouldnt sign the new terms so they were sacked its aload of garbage they still had there own drivers working to

the only good thing was there was three of us we did one drop each then start at 10 next morning with free breakfast and tea

the way tesco are playing only scabs yes u know who you are nobody forced you into tesco wagon and you knew what was happening before you took the job is it really worth the bother for £3 an hour less [zb] mugs will work there at least no decent drivers with a social consience and a respect for fellow drivers will cross a picket line . work for tesco id rather sit in the house.

Should the best before date be 26/05/2007?

thee was no picket line there was more coppers than anything i agree with you coffee. My opinion is that from what i heard was they will still be on £35 grand a year and some other crap about a higher bonus and it wasnt just subbies going in and out it was there own drivers aswell thats what the ones on strike were angry with. i stopped at the gate everytime i drove in or out and had a chat

mike c it was through stobarts but your probably right they would have jumped at it

i agree with you coffee.

Agree with what? I never commented on the strike, I haven’t a clue what it is about or why they are striking. The only comment I made was to keep the model truck for sale on ebay and to ask what period the £500 was for.
