Stobarts will never get Knauf while they are doing British Gypsum.

tesco still recruiting for livingston, ive just recieved a job offer from them start 9th april on an 8 week rota the money is decent and the benefits seem to be good so all good.
stobbies still have some units at livingston but i think they are for the rail boxes?
This is an interesting question, as the late, great Marvin Gaye once asked “What’s goin’ on?”
There’s another vacancy ad in today’s Indeed Email for Tesco directly employed, proper cards in Class1 drivers vacancies at Wideness (sic)
There have been stories circulating on and off for a few years that Tesco are going to take the work back in house but never any concrete evidence, just as the speculation DHL were about to take the contract from ESL all proved to be just that, hot air.
The investment in new tractor units and refrigerated trailers would be significant even for an organisation like Tesco along with the associated lead times from the manufacturers, especially the trailers, so it would involve a great deal of planning which would bound to become public knowledge at some point.
I suspect that the recent takeover of Bookers by Tesco is at the centre of a strategic shift in management thinking that will affect the whole business so there could be substance behind the rumour, rest assured someone at ESL will be aware of these vacancy adverts.
It could all be corporate game playing by Tesco to keep Stobarts on their toes
We shall see
I would imagine that if the jobs are advertised on the Tesco website then you would be working for Tesco.
I know Downhill are out of Daventry in April so hopefully from a drivers point of view this trend continues, better to work for Tesco any day, proper benefits and not some ponzi scheme to calculate you’re pay, like the meal allowance so they don’t have to pay you you’re average earnings for holidays.

I would think its logical to keep the work in house, why would you want to give someone a profit for doing something you could do yourself.
As for the units and trailers prior to 2016 I believe these were leased by Tesco for use by Stobarts or DHL as part of the contract, we have a number of Ex stobarts units in our yard from these depots, there is a constant replacement of the fleet in all depots.
From a drivers point of view I would imagine they would be quite happy to be TUPED’d over form Stobart to Tesco whose pay and conditions are considerably better It all stems from the current boss trying to increase profit margins to 4.5% so getting shot of contract haulage would be a natural solution towards this goal, good for drivers.

They did at one point, must have got rid of it, that was an awful contract to work on.

I’d very much doubt any Stobart drivers would be transferred to Tesco should this be the case, they’d simply re-assign them to other work in most instances but you do make a very interesting point about the current ESL management’s policy of increasing margins and that by it’s very nature means walking away from low margin work, however historical, high profile or whatever.
Tesco were a large customer of the now defunct Palmer and Harvey and the failure of P&H must have caused Tesco a few headaches in their supply chain service, especially to the smaller shops in their empire, given that they have inherited a large fleet of vehicles from Booker it would seem appropriate to review their whole logistic and distribution operations.
As to why they are advertising to recruit C+E drivers to work as a full time, cards in, Tesco employees is yet to be revealed
P&H never really cost us an issue.
Within afew day it was sorted the frozen gos out on rigid runs in the afternoon.
The ■■■■ went to the grocery dcs to deliver.

Nobody know Stobart happy about Tesco contract price or not.I think not one big company when award contract to transport company will give good money for this job.Simply Stobart can do more cheap that in house because Stobart do store delivery and after sometime go to some collection and delivery to someone. But in house transport do just one way delivery.
Avonmouth, Magor & Southampton all recruiting as well. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them take transport back in house. Avonmouth have always done their own transport but at the moment there must be 80 loads a day (if not more) going to local contractors.
I believe Avonmouth drivers are now on £12 an hour basic. Time and a half after 42 hours. But then in Avonmouth this is only what everyone else is paying. Especially with The Range.
