Had it been me I would have stopped and dropped the suspension just to be on the safe side. Wouldn’t have turned round though.
and there’s me thinking professional drivers had tape measures and actually measured the height of the trailer.

so would everyone else.
but back to the origional question, i think they are a waste of time, they are designed for people in suits that know [zb] all can talk about teardrop trailers and carbon boot prints.
They were tested by the firm I work for, apparently from a fuel saving point of view they don’t work.
They had all the new trailers fitted with side skirts and vortex generators, the thousands of pounds that are spent repairing said skirts probably outweigh any saving in fuel costs, and they look bloody awful also.

I don’t think the skirts are too bad, they should not be getting damaged anyway. When I was on B&Q wag + drag drop boxes, the skirts made reversing under 2 demount boxes quite tight, and they often got ripped off, but none by me, so there’s no excuse for them being damaged really.
I think mudflaps caught against these daft guide rails or raised kurbs are damaged more often and more excusable than damaging the side of a trailer.

the bridge sign said 14’ and the trailer said 4.28. i used the converter on my phone to discover the height is 14.04 so i set my height indicator to 14’1" which is higher than that indicated on the sign i was looking at, not that i was convinced of the accuracy of the sign anyway. plus it was a poor road surface so had i gone for it, all it would take is a bump and i would hear a crunch. not worth the risk! Can you confirm that the link I posted is the same bridge, if it is, then it also says 4.3m.
that is the right bridge although i dont remember a bright yellow sign. the one i saw definately wasnt that clear either. not that it matters since the merc does have a higher fifth wheel than a volvo so the 4.28 isnt accurate either. its actually 4.31 and i am not going to screw up this job by taking a stupid risk with one of the only 2 non fleet vehicles. they approached me with this offer and i am not going to risk losing it
