51T :open_mouth:

“See the photos as a trailer was stopped by the police weighing thousands of tons over its limit (Image: Gwent Police)”

Thousands of tons, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

The trailer axle weights would also have been interesting especially 2 and 3.

“The wheels were creaking under the weight.”

Pretty poor decisions by the driver and operator,
Great journalism, shame they can’t tell the difference between kilos and tonnes

“That is what we call a wide load”

Of all the things, wide is the one thing this isn’t…

Carryfast:
The trailer axle weights would also have been interesting especially 2 and 3.

The 3 trailer axles would probably have all been the same…remember how air suspension works?

And also on the “journalism” the 51 T varies between the weight of the
2 diggers / the trailer / the vehicle.

the nodding donkey:

When looking at the pictures side on its over 16m wide ha, just like the pictures of the wheels creaking and other gems in that article.

please no, don’t reignite the 26 tonner axle weight debate were at 44 tonnes now twice as many axles twice the CF debate legacy

Sorry, I should have zipped it, rather than mentioning that.
At least it is all in metric tonnes, as in Imperial Tons he would only have been 6.98 tons overweight.

Don’t you have load sharing axle groups? In this country axles are weighed as a group, eg, a tri can weigh between 20,000 and 22,500kg, depending upon the scheme under which the vehicle it opperating. Multiaxle group axle weights are never considered individually.

Good God! Yes, let’s stick to slagging off the “journalist” :unamused: if I can use that word. I think the local rag was short-staffed so they recruited someone posting on Twitter, without checking whether he could write news copy.

Not only does HarryJam88 not know the difference between kilos and tonnes, but he’s never been taught that “amazing” and “astonishing” might be fine for his social media postings but aren’t really appropriate for journalism. Nor is appropriate to use exclamation marks; these are not “massive diggers” (he needs to get out more); trailers do not drive down any motorway, and finally, hyperbole should be reserved for fiction “photos showing the wheels creaking” :unamused: FFS… Kids doing GCSEs are taught those things.

I’m not too impressed with Gwent Police either: “Driver real poor attitude road safety”. Sounds double-plus ungood to me.

The role of a journalist has changed over the years. No longer are they required to be grammatically and factually correct. The new job description no longer has any expectation of post primary school English or any skills in fact checking or research. The prime purpose is to shock and horrify the gullible, to create more advertising revenue, with a close secondary role of pushing their masters’ political agenda.

I might argue that you`re putting things in the wrong order there for too many media outlets here.
The political slant of the owner and their chosen ones comes first, not second.
Some owners would like revenue, but are prepared to lose cash in order to get their own message out there. Getting the voters on their side makes them more in tax breaks for the rich than they lose in wages for journos etc.

I can’t really argue, with any conviction, Frangas. One does have to feel for the bastions of industry, such dilemmas, with which we, mere mortals, don’t have to wrestle.

Well yes, deciding whether or not renew the Mediterranean yacht this year, or to move the Caribbean yacht across the Atlantic for the season is too much of a strain for us plebs. Arent we all glad we dont have the worry of such decision making?
They deserve all the tax breaks that they can get from their pet politicians. After all not all of them get to sit in the Lords wearing ermine.

PS…
Is that why they are rattling through PMs so quickly?
They need to get loads of resignation honours through the sausage machine. All those party donors, and personal backers, and loan arrangers, etc need their totally deserved and worthy reward for their unselfish acts.

No, it’s just that he won’t see the new posts until he once again passes through the inter-dimensional portal that links our dimension (a.k.a “reality”) with his alternative abode (Cloud Cuckoo Land) which must be where he currently is.
