Tdg tanker driver at tesco

. end of story

As a Tanker driver who encounters this situation on a fairly regular basis i would like to add that the tanker driver should have got out and explained why he wanted the car to move and where he needed to be instead of just flashing his lights.

You hardly ever improve a situation by being confrontational from the start.
I’m sure most people would move if they understood the reason behind it.

We are routed up to our maximum most days and we have very little time for anything to go wrong.
However, cars on the forecourt, either on or in the way of the delivery point is not something for the driver to lose control over.

'kin 'Eck!

I’ve done a few forums in my time, but none that love to apportion blame and ‘ave a go’ quite so quickly as this one!

FWIW, I think the OP is right in not moving! He was there, in line, waiting for his juice. Tanker driver has to wait…end of story! As someone else said, customer comes first. Without the customers, said tanker driver would be very quickly drawing dole!

I hear what you guys are saying out local town filling station closes when a tanker
is making a delivery is that what we need to to back to?

I think it is all a case of consideration for others , and while I take on board
the comment of a member saying if you did not park on a hatched area , this
is something I would avoid particularly if I knew a tanker was trying to deliver
yep the tanker flashing lights does nothing to help the situation.

I am maybe old fashioned but as a driver who earns a living doing a similar job
to the tanker driver I would have looked out for him and let him know this, I would
also expect him to be professional.

When I need help in my job I don’t hesitate to ask a fellow professional for assitance
and would gladly offer the same.

+1

I had this in mind when I read the OP. Working on the theory that ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’ I did wonder if the OP realised that he was making a fool of himself?

That’s why I asked if he started this Thread for a bet?

Is Lee a ‘professional’ truck driver by day??

Then an utter ignorant, lazy ‘tin box - steering wheel attendant’ after work??

The tanker driver may have only flashed his lights to say ‘I am here, have you seen me?’

Then it escalates… :arrow_right:

If he is then he needs psychatric help for his bi-polar disorder. I am more inclined to believe that he behaves in the same immature fashion day and night.

Just gets better here !!!

as a ’ tanker driver ’ the forecourt is just one huge hazourdous area. As already stated some forecourts are forced to closed at inconvenience to customers for saftey… either by order of the Fire Officer for that site, or if the Tanker Driver feels its unsafe.

The Fire regulations state that a ’ tanker ’ has to have clear access and egress, once committed on entering a forecourt the integrity of the tanker is paramount. If we can SEE there is a problem on the forecourt, we will not deliever. The site soon sort out the problem, because they will be charged for a failed delivery and knowing tesco’s will run out of fuel.

The problem on this occasion, and probably why the driver [ who shouldn’t have been so unprofessional ] lost it, is that when a tanker delivery is due the site staff should have coned off that area. Yes we are routed to the max, job times have nothing in them so we do feel rushed and once on site they give us 45mins to tip. Now some contracts you won’t rush around because if you cant do it in the time given you just drop one of the deliveries, but on some contracts you will lose money for doing so.

Whenever this has happened to me most customers seem to understand what and where I need to go and they move. I’ve never really had a problem, but we always get moaned at for something or other, either blocking the air, why is it closed when its a 24 hour etc etc you just learn to smile and say sorry ’ sir / madam ’

Just an Example of my Esso 12hour day shift yesterday routing [ once on racks takes about 15-20 mins to load and a delivery 40-45 to deliver ] Tamworth split delivery with selly oak… 2 hours 20m Ardwick Green Manchester 5.47 and final trip Millpool 2.31 plus checks and brake all in = 11 hours 48m and that is what we’ll be paid for even if we go over. So if you’ve lost time in traffic / loading or ’ queing ’ for the forecourt you can’t help but feel the world is against you. They tell us if you can’t do it then drop the last… now even if its not your fault, we will lose 15 pound for dropping it and then be paid the garaunteed 10, so if i’d dropped the millpool they’d find something to make up the 10. [ and if we do this to often, they have us in for ’ counselling ’ ] So i’d do myself out of £45 and there you have why some tanker drivers are so stressed trying to get the work done. Until they mess up and get a 12 month written warning, which believe me is far too easy to get.

The OP is probably someone that complains about car drivers and then behaves like all those he has complained about.

Remember most of us are both lorry and car drivers and should behave in an appropriate manner at all times. His behaviour was absolutely disgraceful.

So you park in a yellow hatch area, abuse the driver and come on here saying he was having a bad day

The idea of a forum is to discuss matters and everyone has the opportunity to air their views, just thought I would explain that in case you weren’t aware of it’s function.
