Just wondering if anybody on here has worked for Taylor’s industrial in Aberdeen or knows of anybody that has worked there that would know what they are like to work for.
Been offered a start but want me to have a medical after I start which seems strange.

Not that unusual, some companies have eye tests/medicals etc for new drivers. If anything it shows that they actually do care about who they let loose in their vehicles.

Why do you fear the medical?? If the jobs a good in, then take it, if you have a medical condition that you are concerned might affect you getting the job, ask them, it might not, There’s lots of conditions that don’t affect your HGV, but could affect certain jobs…
An example of the kind of work they do is industrial tank cleaning, for example on offshore supply vessels in the harbour where a team of guys go down into the ship’s drilling mud tanks to clean out any residue. That goes into the back of a vacuum tanker and taken away for disposal. I’ve not worked for them myself but would expect the role to be more than just driving the lorry, maybe not as far as doing the tank diving but I’d think you’d be helping set up the kit so it could be quite physical work with nightshifts/dayshifts hence the requirement for a medical. Their kit looks top notch, no idea about the wages.

I have been told that 2 guys left their previous employers, had their induction and medical on the first day and then told the following week that they had failed their medical and were then sacked.
All I am saying is that any other job I have had that required a medical was done prior to being offered a position.

That is the point I don’t understand. Any job I have had that required a medical was done before a job offer was made. I have already been drug and alcohol tested at the interview.
Apologies, I should have read your OP properly. I didn’t notice that you said medical AFTER starting. Yep, that is odd! I suppose the only way to find out is to ask them directly what their reasoning is. Maybe a warning to walk away now if that’s what happened to the other 2 drivers.

They may have passed the medical, but failed the D+D screening when the results came back

The drug and alcohol tests are done at interview, I have no idea why they failed the medical but I am going to tell them that I would want the medical and get the results prior to leaving my current job.
Cheers
