Sorry to hear the sad news of Tony Pugh RIP.Used to see his lorries regularly around Shrewsbury.

never met the man, but heard lots of stories about him, and i bought my second lorry off alan pritchard, who still worked with mr pugh after they both left, his reputation for his great looking trucks preceeded him, and his trucks will never be forgotten by me, and he will alway’s be remembered by his friends who still have trucks in bayston hill, my claim to tony pugh fame is that, the stainless battery box that was on his truck pictured above is now on my current truck!!! as alan prichard left it on the globetrotter i bought off him, as tony had given it to alan when he finished!!! RIP MR PUGH no more pain now.

hi gents ,
gentleman i have a question to ask ( from a friend who worked for the company and thinks he maybe the machine driver ) regarding a picture on here , can the member who posted the picture remember where it was taken please ?
also a few more pictures too,
thank you

Looking at the top picture, that looks like Don Middleton, in YNU220Y, he was based at Old Cliffe Hill Quarry, Leicestershire, and picture was probably taken in the Midlands before about 1990 (not my pictures, but I was at Cliffe Hill back then…)

One of Tarmac Mancetter’s Owner Drivers delivering to rural Warwickshire recently…

One from the past, the late John Austin’s Volvo pictured at Bayston Hill, John’s earlier Leyland pictured previously on here, spent many weekends at Truck shows around the country in the 80’s…

There was a very good turnout at Emstry Crematorium yesterday to celebrate the life of Tony Pugh, including of course a clean Tarmac truck on display in the car park…for those that remember the sight of the gleaming “T4 TPT” running up and down the A5, closely followed by Alan Pritchard’s equally spotless Volvo…thank you for the memories…

Not much of the old Tarmac empire left anymore, as Anglo American has sold most of it off, but one of the few areas left is the United Arab Emirates, pictures taken today by one of my colleages for your enjoyment…

Have we had this one Bonkey.transportphotos.com
I will have this picture without the watermark on at weekend and repost it then.

hi all ,

A few memories there! I ran over that weighbridge for 10 years, from 1990 till 2000, although by then it had been renamed Tarmac Scunthorpe.
And the orange Constructor is A403 DTV, only 6 digits away from A 409 DTV which was my first wagon. It was a torture device when running empty so it was changed for a Sed Ak 311 after about 18 months.
Just noticed Revin’ Kevin’s ERF too. He had an equally immaculate Volvo F7 when I was there. He sometimes visited Scunthorpe and I sometimes went to Holme Hall.

Hi Seagoon, have you any pics from holme hall i used to go there when it belonged to butlers.Heres a couple of pics of tarmac lorries you may have seen them on tarmac tipper thread already.

Sorry but I never thought to carry a camera. Wish I had now.I recognize most of those trucks and drivers though.

Just found a picture of a Reiver KUE 526V I used to drive for Denis Salt of Longford, I had just finished painting it, this was my first regular lorry on the road as I had just ventured out of the garage after 5 years as a mechanic. It started out life at Tarmac Cauldon Lowe but Denis ran it in Ballidon and Ivonbrook quarries around about 1986

It didn’t look like that after Jim had it Rob! :open_mouth: Good days eh, plenty of work and Tommy Wibb to get it out of you wether you wanted it or not!

Pete.
