Theres bound to be joblosses and losses to their contract hauliers.
In South Wales for eg Tarmac have 5 concrete plants and 22 mixers
Lafarge have 4 concrete plants and about 25 mixers.
Theres not enough work for all of them
There wonât be many hauliers left, unless they increase the rates. They will have to do it eventually or go back to running their own vehicles. No one can run on their present rates.

Don`t know whats going to happen in South wales Dave because all Lafarge drivers are company drivers.

Yes I live near the quarries, was a cpc holder for several operators in the quarry, originally a driver out of them, still have a lot of mates there.
Cheers Dave.
when anglo/american who owned tilcon bought tarmac a lot of the quarry managers.reps on the tilcon side lost ther jobs because as we where told tarmac had the expertise on the coated stone.this ended up with some managers running three quarries.work wise for us hauliers it was a disaster our regular work given to other quarries,i did a lot more standing after the merger.

I dont know whats going to happen our way either Dave. few have downsized the fleet and a few owner drivers have sold up. the rest of us are just hoping things will get better.

The way fuel is going to rocket up in the next week or so,due to the trouble in the Libya etc, they will have to put the rates up Merfyn. Otherwise no one will be able to afford to run a lorry.
Cheers Dave.

Its my personal thought that they will get their merger. Both Tarmac and lafarge looked into this months before announcing it and wouldnt spend millions on planning if they thought they wouldn
t get their way.
Many concrete plants and quarries that clash with each other will either be closed or sold off to the likes of Breedon Aggregates who have ÂŁ50million to spend on assets that have to be disposed of for the merger.
Thus increasing competition in some areas

As long as they donât start medling with MQP (Tarmac and Hanson jv) it should be okâŚ
These. Jvâs are one of the main reasons for the other CC investigation into the whole industry. Doesnât seem right to CC that competitors have these JVs and buy and sell products to each other. Also the CC doesnât like the asset swapping that goes on be
tween the companies

There is a lot of speculation about that happening in this area, especially as their chief exec was the former boss of this region for t****c.

Mr T . AL, I miss the old Tarmac Western and the people who were running us. Since we have merged with Southern and are now Tarmac West things aren`t as well run. Especially transport.
I personally would like the merger to go through just to change the way we are being run

A lot of the hauliers this way are packing up.The rates are low and the Bosses donât care if they are making money or not. They might wake up when they run short of insulated tippers.
