Fair point hammerThe only other quarry’s are lafarge which soon they not gonna let you buy anything other than Renault
And basically your just an employee with all the overheads it’s like working for the gustap from what I’m told!!!
Other than that it’s MQP but they are midlands based they are a joint venture between Tarmac and Hanson not as strict as the above mentioned.
If you all ready have the truck haven’t you tried subbing for various quarry’s or firms?
Lafarge are in partnership with Tarmac, its only a matter of time before Lafarge buy Tarmac.

True but what I’m told by a chap who works at Tarmac lafarge havn’t got the money own Tarmac out right
But he could be wrong. But also if they do I don’t think they will end up taking over MQP as they ar separate so I’m led to believe…
BUT with 2 quarry’s in the pipeline to reopen in the next 15 years that could be there reason?
talking to owner operator yesterday they have slashed rates for night work on a take or leave it attitude glad i bugger off when i did bring back wimpeys.

I think the Lararge -Tarmac setup is down to the monopolies commission giving them the OK,thats why they haven’t taken over completely yet.
i was speaking to a lafarge owner driver a couple of weeks ago on the m25 widening job at the south mimms tip-he was getting £27 per load from tittenhanger .ok its only round the corner but i bet you would struggle to do more than 10 or twelve loads.sod that!!

If thats for dry then its a poor rate…if its for black then its appalling.
Glad I’m out of it.

Did the construction crash put paid to you too Jim
Maybe you decided to retire
You remember telling me how you worked the finance on your tipper back in 2004, did you realise the money ■■■■■■■ in it when you sold It

Three things did it for me Andy:
Cost of chassis renewal (up 28% in two years)
Poor rates and thin work
Derv cost
Had a chance to get out of haulage and took it. Came out with all my capital (to the last £!) so was happy.
Instead of having two mortgages (truck & house) I now have none. I’m not earning anywhere near what I did in the good times now but I don’t need to any more so thats ok…nor do I have the worry.
Had 20 years out of it so not a bad run and the reasons for the end of it were out of my control; I chose to finish rather than ‘had’ to.

Good man,
glad everything worked out well for you.
Just back from a shift working for DFDS Logistics on their Sainsburys contract via Grafton and could not be happier either.
Decent clean/fresh 6x2 Merc Axor’s with gift of a powershift box and left to get on with the job by good guys in the office too.
£100+ in the bank per shift too.
God the more I read the more I think I’ll give it a miss Thanks to all for the advice!
Cheers
John
