Tankers on Trucksgalore

Stag Tankers were run by City group and became City Tankers before it grew into City Transport.

Woodbrow was the first tanker company I worked for, this 3600 was driven by Mick Franks. He eventually bought it and ran as an owner driver.

Charles Lucy Daf that became Yeoward Bros that eventually became Abbey Tankers.

Daf Spacecab on European Bulk Transport (EBT) Schmidt of Heilbronn.

Hoyer Mercedes, Look at those trailers. A 20’ lift tank on them certainly made you drive carefully, they were scary on roundabouts, and over the A66 :stuck_out_tongue:

Les McKie is still working but now pulls for Armet, Another one of the Lucy Dynasty.

There are many more and would like to thank Trucksgalore for taking a photo of the first Daf 3600 I drove.

The cheque is in the post

cracking pics wheel-nut. as for the lift tank i still pull them and nothing has changed they are still as scary at roundabouts

your not wrong mate, not long finnished working for hoyers and hated driving the lift tanks, belive the lads who had the automatics had fun driving, them too especially with no baffles in!, hardest stuff i have to cope with now is pvc powder, bloody pain when you spill a bit on you nice clean uniform lol. some god pictures on trucks galore, charles lucy is now dead so i’ve be told. drank in the cuckoo in birkehead, him and his drivers were characters. one of his sons is still on the board at abbey and the other runs armet. brennens was another firm that i remember, lad called taffy wuld be parked up nearly every weekend outisde the market inn in birkenhead, they often loaded tallow out of the docks…fond memories

aaahh tallow ref wirralpete, lovely smelling stuff (i think not).

When did Charlie die then? He got me out of a tight spot once. Put a frightener on a ghastly little man in Dorset when he was being a fool.

They were all in the garden at some point. ART used to be good to the likes of me.

Hated the lift tanks. Once you got it swinging you really couldn’t stop it. The suspension on my poor old Renault had serious workouts in traffic with them. Give me a road barrel anyday!

This was my last tanker.

i had heard of a bloke who i work with that charlie had died, he was living in spain, he was certainly a card and some of the antics of charlie and his drivers opended my eyes years before i started driving, bernie te cab is one, spent all night cabbying then up the road with a run for charlie, spent whatever time off he had either in the cuckoo pub or asleep across the table in the drivers cabin in the yard…

Old Charlie didnt die, he is living in Spain and still kicks them lads arses :stuck_out_tongue:

There are 3 companies now. Seaforth, Armet and Abbey.

Armet was started by a good friend. AR Metcalf. Hiya Tony :stuck_out_tongue:

Tallow, Ah, Bisto :stuck_out_tongue:

Clelland. Cussons and Robbie Dwyer

Oh my God, Cussons!

My poor old mind had done its best to block the “It’s grade 1 tallow, honest!” with the horses heads bobbing up!!!
