Tanker driver hourly rate?

Just wondering if anybody knows the average hourly rate of a tanker driver? (not delivering petrol).
I am in Scotland and I understand the rate will be higher down South.
I am currently in a boring highway maintenance job at the mo and have the qualifications to do the tanker job but me moving would depend on hourly rate/ annual salary.
Thanks in advance lads.

Like other areas of transport, it will depend firstly whether its own account or hire and reward, on shift patterns worked, premium (weekends, nights, bank hols) days/hours worked.
It may be salaried, so an hourly rate is worked out by dividing the top line by the number of real hours worked, some companies want under hours back some don’t.

As always, the best terms will be at unionised jobs, but the headline top line might be no different than somewhere else, the difference being a week’s work for a weeks wages, not chasing round like your arse is alight maxing every hour.

Sorry can’t be any more help, i know blokes averaging £12 an hour and some nudging £25 average (when calculated as above) on nights.

Thanks, I was hoping it would be around the £12 mark, not great but better than I get now.

Look at Cryogenic work, BOC, Air Products, Air Liquide & companies that do LNG, in my experience they pay more than petrol work as it costs the company lots more to train & is more specialist, I worked for BOC & Flogas & both paid north of £55k

Thanks, there was a BOC near me but the depot has closed down now, I was thinking about going to a local company that does a lot of tanker work

As has already been said, the wages on offer will vary from company to company. A lot will also depend on what sort of load your carrying. For example, bulk powders tend to pay more than liquids, ADR usually pay more than non-ADR.
