so we’ve moved on from European bashing to a spot of paddy bashing this week .
Can’t wait for next week - who’s turn is it then ?

Agency driver’s should be next week’s targeted group, preferably those who have a permanent hi-viz and a dolly bag.

sigh of relief i thought it was rigid multidrop drivers next week…are we the week after?

If you wait around long enough you will probably get multiple abuse for falling into several categories

Euro bashing especially EE’s will always be popular but permanent hi viz is always going to be top of the tree :stuck_out_tongue:

Apparently it’s safe for coppers to drive and talk on the radio and I don’t believe for one minute it’s all emergency stuff and no chit chat.

Its irrelevant because the law is clear on the use of phones and also allows the use of two-way radio, not just for the police but for all. CB radio anyone?

It’s clear on the maximum speed limit on the motorway too and all sorts of things.

Exactly. But you’re whittling on about a radio being used when it’s actually not illegal to do so and is far more widespread than just the police.

Trukkertone:
may I just add that no cyclists were injured or killed.

Or traffic officers, that was a driver using a mobile phone that killed my mate and left his little lad without a dad if you want perspective. A bloody phone call can wait, it’s not that important.

RoadsRat:

dieseldog999:
then in times gone by your normal mororway plod might have had a tad more initiative and perspective that the ones nowadays who have a similar outlook to the traffic cones that surround them.

In times gone by, it wasn’t illegal to hold a phone while driving.

You’re seriously saying you expect the police to ignore a driver holding a phone to their ear/texting while driving a 44T vehicle at 55mph? You must be a troll.

dieseldog999:
wouldnt surprise me if i find out later that he would have been spotted from the bridge, followed by a starsky and hutch overkill pursuit hence implying not seeing the woodentops coming.
thats the usual slimy tactic around there anyway apart from the more regular blatant entrapment.
its legal to use the cb,but still a option for the rats to try and charge you for not being in proper control.
the o/p is a perfect example as to why the regulars despise the traffic in that area as they all try to work from the same script.

Does it matter how he was caught? He broke the law, got caught and got punished.

Entrapment?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ignorance is bliss.
if your remotely connected with ■■■■■■■ or d&g traffic plod, then you must know exactly how it works on the 75.entrapment is a accurate description.
manfrieghts volvo would more than likely be an automatic,so sitting on cruise control in a automatic on a quiet motorway during a nice dry sunny day would hardly constitute a hazard if he was juggling 3 phones at the same time.
and holding a phone to his ear/txting?? 1 or the other surely.?
mabey a good excuse if he reads this and pleads not guilty if plod cant see clearly for 10 feet if he was talking on the phone at his ear or txting on it?
theres a great likelyhood he was local to stranraer or d&g,but even with the serious amount of inbreeding down there, then his eye would need to be sticking out of his ear for that to be accurate.
that was the main reason why they cancelled the proposed tv series csi dumfries and galloway, as just before filming they discovered that everyone has the same dna and nobody has any dental records…

Hopefully the Scottish, skirt wearing weirdos.

How is it entrapment?

“entrapment (noun) - the action of tricking someone into committing a crime in order to secure their prosecution.”

The driver was a hazard because he wasn’t concentrating on what was happening around him.

Yes, one or the other because I wasn’t there so don’t know whether he was texting or holding it to his ear. That’s why I put in a “/” between both types of offence.

Using a phone when you’re supposed to be driving doesn’t just make you a prat, it makes a dangerous prat. Everyone knows the score with these laws, but some idiots think they’ll get away with it. Nationality aside, he got what he deserved and if anyone wants to prattle on about how harsh it was on him… no one put the phone in his hand.

Roads Rat, every profession has individuals who will break the rules or law notice that you didn’t put a big post up on Monday highlighting the article in the Times that the Met’s Anti Corruption department is being investigated for yep you’ve guessed it corruption!! bucket loads of irony there. There are probably more serving police officers under investigation than lorry drivers so while I don’t agree with using the phone while driving don’t think the police are in much of a position to be lecturing on being professional at work.

Well there was a topic posted (with inaccurate details) last week where everyone was frothing at the mouth because they thought a police sergeant didn’t get a ban for drink driving.

Any police officer guilty of corruption deserves everything they get. You won’t find me defending them.

Sadly there is a small minority of people in all jobs (police, truck drivers) that break the law. You will find that the vast majority of police officers aren’t corrupt.

There are some on here that like to make out that Irish registered trucks and their drivers are untouchable and never get caught. That’s clearly not the case.

We all know Irish lorries are not untouchable and generally come under more roadside scrutiny than UK registered ones I personally have been pulled nearly 20 times in the last 4 years and only once have has a fine been raised, compare that with Stobarts finest Mr Dozy pulled once and ended up in court!. For at least the last 15 years various traffic commissioners and police have said that they will close down all the small operators in the North and in particular South Armagh, well so far one large company has been shut down who never operated out of Ireland and 95% of people on here will never have heard of and the other one to make national headlines is still operating and the irony being that all the driving offences were committed by English and Scottish drivers.

The headline Tangtastic while a good play on words in all probability will be inaccurate as more than likely it will have been a Scotsman driving so hardly a Tang, it is amazing how many people who have never set foot in South Armagh are experts on the haulage operations from that part of the world perhaps thay should pay less attention to RDC bull and worry about their own operations.

Out of interest Roads Rat how many pictures of cars that were caught commiting offences had their picture plastered all over twitter? or is this a case of the police pandering to the public perception that all lorry drivers are idiots who need to be taken off the road.

Good post mazzer

If you use twitter, then look at the @■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ twitter account (I am no way affiliated with them). You’ll see they post photos of cars and vans that they stop for all sorts of offences. So no, they probably weren’t just targeting truck drivers for some PR stunt. The majority of their photos are of cars and vans, very unusual to see them post a photo of a truck.

Unluckily for the truck driver, he drives a liveried vehicle whereas cars don’t.

But don’t you agree that we should be expecting higher standards from truck drivers who drive for a living and are (some might say) professional drivers? They certainly aren’t helping the public perception that lorry drivers are idiots (your words) and some of the comments here reflect that.

+1 mazzer…says it all.
personally i use a earpiece now as it was a hassle letting plod give me the fixed penalty 3 or 3 times a year after showing them an irish licence ( usually on the 75) then having to go into stranraer office and let the fines wifey refuse to take it as they cant take possession of your irish licence to put points on it.obviously it works the same in eire when you show them your uk one.
that would be followed by a phone call from some top dog telling me to bin it as the woodentops should have arrested me and taken me straight to court. ( you would think they would learn) ?
actually the main reason i use it is because im getting a bit deaf and its clearer, otherwise the peekaboos would suffice nicely, though it helps having an extra hand when im microwaving the tea shrtly before stopping or buttering a piece on the cruise.
if joe public saw mobiles and driving as a crime, then they wouldnt be doing it same as speeding.
the fact that they tend to ignore it,then they dont, simple as that.you only need to look around you whilst driving to see the vast majority driving around erratically though mostly tarts stuck to facebook and similar.
the goverment see it as a mega revenue raiser, hence the situation nowadays.all that happens is the same as transport nowadays.
the newer drivers get brainwashed and accept crap as the norm whereas its the older ones that wont accept the change so easily.
its totally beyond my comprehension that your average plod expects you to take on board that he actually believes the road safety pish they spout.
