"Taking Your Safety Seriously. ."

I’m quite scheptical about these sorts of things and it is my opinion that they do them for effect. It’s the same with the environment, do they really care about it or is it just a case of jumping on the bandwagon? Let’s be honest, this environmental stuff costs an absolute fortune to adhere to.

It’s like Thames Water. Keep on hiking up the prices to pay shareholders and do up Londons’ sewers, but to take the sting out they ask you to throw more money away by donating to water aid. They don’t care about Eejit walking 10 miles a day to get water (build a mud hut closer to the borehole?), they just want to appear warm and cuddly to the consumers. Tesco do the same with their “safety seriously” signs. They don’t care if you gohead first into a tree, aslong as your car’s full of their horsemeat burgers.

Horsemeat Burgers!!! :open_mouth: …whatever next

Going over 45 on a dc isn’t speeding. Not annoyed by doing the limit, it’s the patronising warm and fluffy notices on the back. What’s up with just displaying the legal limits (all trucks should, really)?

Speed limit is not a target is it ?
It is just to inform the Joe Public that that lorry is doing 37mph on SC because of the law.Remember 40 is the limit not a target.

Come off it, unless there were some safety reason such as weather, anyone doing 37 is eithdr hanging the time or being a jobsworth.

Neither I’m afraid, we get told to obey the law to the letter, weight limits speed limits must be observed the signage on the rear of the vehicles is a pro-active approach which is now more common throughout transport, it’s not there for the benefit of other lorry drivers who already know the limits.

37 mph on a single carriageway is taking it to extremes in my opinion :imp: There are, and have been multiple posts on the 40 mph speed limit to be raised to 50 mph :smiling_imp: until there stops being multiple pile ups involving HGV’s I doubt there will be a change regardless of the argument.

H&S is a complete overkill and is there purely to justify a non profitable position or job description!! When H&S is involved common sense goes out of the window because people become ignorant and just do what they are told…they have no room to think for themselves and because of that they are in a false sense of security (everyone else knows what everyone else is thinking) therefore they go about their business regardless.

Therein lies the problem - people stop thinking for themselves :unamused: wrongly they feel secure because everyone else will adhere to the rules and they can cut corners - wouldn’t it be better if people were warned that the fork lift driver WILL try to hit you to get his bonus. Or the shunter WILL try and hit your vehicle if you get in his way for his bonus■■?

If you get eye contact then bonus is null and void on that delivery and will retry on the next one!!

the health and safety bit though is a very double edged sword… yes employers go over the top in the implementation of H&S, and take it far and beyond any common sense, however some employees are also using the same H&S crap to get out of doing a job that they dont want to do… and it is increasing… bring back common sense,
