100% with you Davey, definition of theft - when a person/persons dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another, with the intent of permantly depriving the other of said property.

It is theft and the Police will deal with it.

John

I’m an agency driver, through choice, of some 8 years.
If I’m given a truck and it has personal belongings in it, then they will still be there when I’ve finished with it.
I wouldn’t dare to thieve off another driver, I couldn’t sink that low. An agency driver has to build up trust, and it takes time to do that, unfortunately it only takes one to stuff it all up.

Agency drivers are every -ones worst fear, who has a regular motor.

If you are on day runs, or even tramping, your cab is your “Home”.
No driver can leave the cab at the end of his or her shift and take all the necessary bits and bobs home with them.

Unfortanately, there will always be a small number of “Magpies” who pick up pieces that may not belong to them.

This, as I have already said, is THEFT.

Thanks Davey, and John for backing this up.

When I did agency work, a few companies asked for me by name when they needed a driver.

Call this "Blowing my own trumpet ? "

Yes.

And I was proud of it.

The reason I was asked back ?

BECAUSE I RESPECTED OTHER PEOPLES PROPERTY :exclamation:

It takes 5 minutes to put some oil in, fill the unit with fuel, sweep the cab out, and make sure the truck is ready, ( With clean mirrors !) for the regular driver.

Works wonders.

That said, I have been off the road for over 3 years now, I do a bit for a couple of owner drivers, and I don’t miss it.

Cheers,

Niall. ( Semi - Retired, aged 38  )

Why didn’t you ask your boss to clear out your cab for you?

While I doubt you expected to be off work for 2 months, surely you would have expected to be off for at least a couple of weeks. It was your gear, it is up to you to take reasonable care of it. If you had been taking a weeks holiday, you would have emptied your cab wouldn’t you? A phone call to your boss, to ask for your cab to be cleared would have done the job.

Having said that, I was off sick for a few weeks last year. My boss cleared my cab for me without being asked. But they were that sort of company, I knew my cab would be cleared because I had done it for someone else. If it hadn’t been and stuff had gone missing, I would have walked too.
