I also get that, but it’s when it starts to affect YOU is what I was on about,.when these clowns set a pace and you are expected to match it the week or so after…(I don’t even attempt to btw.)
We have them at my place, actually boasting how many dtops they got off in how little time, they think that I am unable to do the same as them.
It ain’t that I’m unable, it’s just that I’ve got more ■■■■ sense…
Years ago I used to come over from Belgium with over 25 drops on ffs, but I got paid very well for doing it in a similar way to those clowns,…where as they DON’T.
robroy:
so it’s back to Owner Driver stylee of working…I’ve got football to watch ffs
Well that idea has gone down the khazi.
Been at second drop for 2 hours hearing those immortal words…‘‘You’re not booked in’’.
2 hours from home,.1 and a half hours driving left on my 6th card.
I’m starting to sound and feel like my old mate doze
Wife has put sirloin steak on at home.
No ■■■■ wonder nobody with a brain wants to do this ■■■■ job anymore…getting angry now.
Back on my 4 day week when I return from my week off, …■■■■ this crap for a game of soldiers.

yeah we have a couple where i work at who go at break neck speed and whine like little ■■■■■■■ when they dont get the cushy jobs, we also have a couple who just plod along and sometimes whine and ■■■■■ when asked if they can be at a certain place before it closes, then theres the ones who just get on with it with and do there best no matter the job they are givin.
Slightly different version of those extracting the urine: my old firm ran things as ‘job and knock’, on the nod and a wink understanding we didn’t take the mick. One of the guys was always done in less than half a day, the rest of us said it was was going to backfire on all of us (the rest of us tended to have longer routes). Sure enough the ‘job and knock’ was ‘knocked on the head’ and the last recruit was made redundant, with the work being reallocated so no one had any chance of job and knock ever again
When I was at Farmfoods there was this old fella, he lived alone and loved to chat, used to know his ‘Union stuff’
I turned up at Ilford store
He was there
I let him know I was there
2 hours to take off 5 pallets
All in order to squeeze a few extra hours

Oh. I did a couple of shifts for farmfoods myself. It probably took the same amount of time to do the same job, but then the store was Ilkeston so it was uphill and all sorts of problems [emoji23].
Let’s talk about today
4am start. Take empty go to Lutterworth pick up another load for Bookers. Alright, got there around 5-530 but I had the wrong reference number, so another 40 minutes wasted trying to contact the planners. Got the trailer at the end so in my way to Bookers. Got tipped in 30 minutes, paperwork in my hand all ready to go. I’m trying to contact the planners from 8am to find out if there’s any other job. No answer so I’m going home [emoji2357] waste of time this was, I was hoping for a good 12 hr shift for Sunday, but I’ll have to take the 9 guaranteed. [emoji2369]

When I worked for Co-op, their planning system automatically calculated the time of the run, based on previous data. So if some, ‘bang it out, get home early’ muvva had the run. Dropping 3 cages on the tail lift (company h&s policy is 2), unloading on a break, not completing their walk-arounds, not fuelling up, not washing the truck (if on a wash day) etc. Then that run is automatically cut for everyone. Any driver doing it right, and not even having a coffee and a chat at the store will be quizzed at debrief.
Also, one person’s ‘efficient work’ is another’s flat out. Steady does it every time for me. Never been sacked for poor time keeping (or anything else )

Just wondering what the relavance of him '‘knowing his union stuff’ has on this subject, as you come across as putting it in a negative context.
Sometimes ‘‘knowing your union stuff’’ can be more often a positive than a negative,.and especially if you work for a company that expects too much if you and/or pushes you,.which is relevant to this thread as it usually happens when some ■■■■ or another ■■■■ s the job up for everybody else.

I did a couple of days also for farmfoods and my first store was Ilkeston. What a small world. Anyway just that tip was about an hour and a half because I never handled milk cages before and you can guess what happened [emoji23]. When I was reading your reply I was like hang on that sound like Stobart and their planners but no. Anyway next time you do a shift for them (if ever) just go back to the yard and they’ll let you know

Did you just reply to yourself saying both of yourselves worked Ilkeston■■?
I work for a small outfit . And some drivers at our place do.
The money we get is pretty good.
Other week at a warehouse fella got his load…and openly told me got an easy run today.
But need make it last 15 hours. I’ve not done any 15 hours this week…need all the hours.
Way I see it if a driver want to max his hours out upto him really.
Personally I’d rather.do.job at hand get home an hour earlier instead or dragging it out for sake of an extra £13

Well at least he’s consistent with his story!

It’s not even £13 (assuming that’s the hourly rate). That’s how I used to rationalise it with people of a similar mindset because by the time you take deductions (tax, NI, pension etc etc) off its probably about £7 in your pocket. I’d rather go home and hour earlier than sit around to see an extra £7.
Thing is drivers that want to drag a day out make it last longer. Are probably the same drivers who drive above the speed limit etc. Shove tacho on break every time there. At a delivery/collection.
Making there day shorter to start with . Then there hanging around for extra hour or so to waste time

When I was hourly paid and working nights it was always the same either a 13hr or a 15hr shift (16 when that was still legal) Nothing in between, why do a 13.5hr shift that’s 1.5hrs overtime wasted! Save the 15s for Sat / Sun thankyou very much and wherever possible 3hr split break. And this was at Asda on the 9hr schedule!
It’s funny but in any other job if you wasted time and clocked up unnecessary hours at work to get paid for them, it could easily be classed as fraud.
Yet drivers think they are above the law and can cheat a company out of money they actually are not entitled too.
It of course would be hard to prove fraud in this case because of loopholes, but you certainly would be less likely to get away with it in any other jobs.
We had a driver who would do a 15 hour run just for the money and I’m talking a really short run and the company allowed drivers like this to get away with it for so long. Eventually they were no longer required by the company. And 2 of them were agency drivers.

Or it can be the opposite the place I work we get paid 10hours every shift if I get the job done @ 7hrs I’m off buh bye.
However office mugs want me to stay and wait 10hours doing f all sod that

That can also be a problem. But if paid a set amount of hours and your done In less time as long as nothing needs covering then they should not expect you to sit around doing nothing. But equally they can find you tasks to do to cover that time as you are being paid for it.
It’s a swings and roundabouts situation in that respect.
I’m lucky in that I get paid for 10 hours and rarely get asked to do anything else and go home when I’m done if I’m done early. But that also means of they ask and need a favour I’m more likely to do it for them even of it will take me over 10 hours.
