Brit PETE, what the ■■■■ are you talking about? trailers are not fixed at 4.00 metres in France, so stop talking ■■■■■■ you people that drive in other countries think you know the rules in another, unless you have experience or qualifications to give advice, shut the ■■■■ up.
ALSO read this POST as we have had this discussion before IT is laid down by the EU that International Trailer Traffic
is limited to 4.00Mts unless you are doing STGO traffic, I rest my case,
and yes people take over height trailers from the UK and get away with it
but and this is the but, its illegal and when stopped caught and done
you have problems,

Pete, neither of those links support your argument. One is just a link to another thread arguing the same point and the other is to a document that shows France does not have a defined height limit. You need to find a link to this EU rule about all international trailers must be 4.0 metres if you want to prove your point.

Forget Google incorrectly translating websites, read what the website says;
Please read this slowly and all of it, as it just proves what I have posted ta very much
yes in real life people break rules all well and good as long as you are not caught,
then the problems which follow cost more than the rate paid for the job,

Yes Pete however slowly you read something doesn’t make you understand it is the wrong information.
The French company I drove for had over 5000 trailers, most of them were 4.2 metres and we carried JCB machines which protruded over the top. I doubt they bought them in error
brit pete: @wheelnut the height limt is laid down by the EU FOR International
journeys ,what EACH COUNTRY DOES IN ITS OWN NATIONAL driving is another matter,
Someone has taken the time to write a PDF Pete. Tell them it is wrong, do you think the French douane or gendarmerie would give up a chance to fine every “foreign” truck coming off the train or ferry in Calais if the EU limit was a blanket 4.0m. You will even notice that Portugal and Italy have different limits for certain vehicles, like containers or motorcars, which I would take to mean car transporters.
In this link about Type Approval there are EU Regulations about almost everything from tow hooks to radio suppression, yet they fail to mention an overall height limit in Europe or at home.
