Take home pay.

Mon - Friday night 10.30 pm - 8.30 am take home after tax £435 … i want moreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :open_mouth:

This thread has pretty much summed up what I already knew. Class 1 jobs out there that pay £500-£700 take home depending on what hours you wish to work.

My hours are 8am-5pm for a builders merchant (Wolseley) at £8.50hr on class 2 hiab so I’m unlucky I can never get more more as the hours ain’t there its what I expect.

Where as if you read my other recent post I have been offered a class 1 job once I pass class 1 I get £500-£700 take home but the hours I hear are anything from 12-15 so its swings and round abouts when it comes to high pay. Question I ask myself is will they definitely give me the job and if they don’t what do I do. I am learning this game you need to know who to trust and who pays well and who will acturally take you on and treat you good.

I earn little but get treated great, if I leave for big pay I could earn the money but be treated crap its all swings and round abouts

Sometimes you have to take a gamble, you could stay were you are, or take a gamble get the class 1 and start looking for jobs, expect to get crap but use it as a learning experience, and move on til you find an employer that suits your needs. Unless you’re happy with what you got, which you are not, otherwise you wouldnt have posed the question

PS you’ll be aiming nearer the £500 take to begin with, better paying employers can have their pick, and unfortunatly experience counts

Who’s experience though? :stuck_out_tongue:

500 to 550 a week take home no more than 11 hours a day no nights out. But i am the lowest of the low in the trucking world

I take home £275 a week but I get a nice shiny
Scania to drive and go to truck shows most weekends
And the boss supplies the food for the BBQ .

I hope you spend your own wages on kelsa bars and polish.

A famous “Poster” on here charges an agency for his time?! :open_mouth: Meanwhile, back on Planet Earth!

This has me in a quandry. Do you (a) lack the ambition and drive to strive for more, or (b) the intelligence to troll properly?

The part about truck shows and BBQ’s makes me think its genuine.
Each to their own however. Some don’t see the money as the deal breaker. If you’re getting paid to go to events every weekend and its your passion then why not. Wouldn’t you rather get paid for a hobby you enjoy than slave for a wage in a job you hate?

I think 99% of people who didn’t need the money would choose something they enjoy.

We all want more money no matter what we earn, But what is your average pay after tax with meal allowances and subsistence included?
Do you think it’s about right? Average? Poor? or Excellent?

The reason for the question isn’t to be a nosey git, It’s to help one another know what the average driver is on, or should be on. Some may be earning a huge amount compared to others, Yet think that they are being screwed. Some may think they are getting a decent wage, Then realise that they are being screwed.

ever since i started as an hgv driver,[1989]i dont think i have ever earned more than £26,000 per annum mostly in the £23,000 to £24,000 per annum bracket,i personally believe hgv drivers should be on a minimum of £30,000 per annum [all hgv drivers that is] but thats only my opinion

I spend my wages on kelsa bars, but I understand Turners spend theirs on the Polish… :unamused:

I think myself quite fortunate I’m a shunt, start time is 8am till around 6pm £9.50ph to 40hrs time an half after that, , sundays at double bubble i get the odd call out which can be a pain but no jobs perfect and no tacho to restrict earnings

The best bit for me is I sleep in my own pit

I will not post what I earn a week, month or year but it is certainly a lot higher than figures quoted here…

But, I do earn £10.50 an hour for days, £1 Night Premium, 150% after 8 hours and Saturdays and 200% Sundays, then I charge 20% VAT on that amount and pay the VAT man 9% of my total invoice amount…

Last week I worked 77 3/4 hours (Including a big weekend shift) which is my record weekly invoice so far

I bet you didn’t earn that when you were running your trucks!

I spend my wages on kelsa bars, but I understand Turners spend theirs on the Polish… :unamused:

Do you have a stereotype for every company out there? FYI yes there are some Polish drivers, there are also some Lithuanian’s at my depot but the majority are from the local area and are English. Now if you want to talk about Fowler Welch or Fresh Linc…

Ohhhhh yes…

But I think you might have got the wrong end of the stick with “Polish”
