GET RID OF SPEED LIMITERS
JLS Driver SOS:
GET RID OF SPEED LIMITERS
Thatâs not going to help as there will be always someone who can go faster but still want you to feel his breath on your back

Anyone else noticed there seems to be an increase in this?I had an 8 yr lay-off from the transport industry, came back about 16 months ago, & it seems that every day i manage to pick up at least 3 or 4 idiots who find the arse end of my trailer an attractive sight

I donât remember it being this bad back in '02 when i came off the road. Is it me or is it getting worse? Iâm limited to 52 so its not other HGVâs doing the tailgating, 90% of the time its cars or vans.
It came to my mind yesterday too I was driving all night in fog thinking that everyone already forgot the big pile up we had lately as 75% of those on the road was doing that. As I said in the tread on that horrible accident - it was not a fog or whatever that caused it - it was speed and tailgating.
Here in North America the problem is just as bad. Im currently working nights and every night at least ten cars will zoom up to me doing 80mph or so on a motorway, but intstead of over taking on the completely empty road they will sit about 5 feet behind my trailer, often with main beams on, occasionally veering left so I get blinded by them. The only way Iâve found to deal with these people is to play a game called âHow Slow Can You Go?â So I start off on my limiter at 65mph and back off to 60, then 55 and so on until finally they veer out like theyâre taking emegency avoiding action, in doing so they often almost lose control and hit the central reservation and they then proceed past at the original 80mph speed, never to be seen again. If the car in question stil has his main beams on I then turn on my rear facing utility lights which are almost as bright as headlights and give them a taste of their own medicine, funny how they then realise their main beams are on and promtly swtich to dipped beamâŚ
Incedentally, the slowest speed yet Iâve had to drop to make them overtake is 37mph on a 4 lane motorway in Quebec.
Sam Millar:
It doesnât at all bother me if itâs a car, but if itâs a lorry then iâll slow down until they decide to pass me. If we come to a standstill, fine by me.
Sorry Sam donât understand your point here as youâve only passed your car test meaning your driving that slow that your holding up a HGV?
Only time I tailgate is when a lorry cuts in front of me with inches to spare to show me he how pro he is. Itâs almost as if they have to make sure they get in first in case I flash them in (I donât) and someone might see and assume they needed help to pull in after overtaking.
Got tailgated on the way to work a few months ago in my car and got so mad I just stopped in the middle of the road and got out. Turned out it was one of our van drivers having a âlaughâ Glad it was as he is a big bas

What Sam fails to mention is that heâs actually driving one of these -
