Tahir pass on Google maps

Hello!

I just found that Google maps have updated the satelite photos of this part of Turkey! Now is possible to clearly see the old tahir pass road!

I have uploaded some photos via panoramio, will be nice if more will be added by forum reader!

Hi boys
Ferdy thanks for that link, how that brought memorys back.I only did Tahir once in 1976 but it sticks in the mind as if it was yesterday. How many of the old ME boys like myself followed the road on the map to have a look at the boarder at Bazargan? Still as I remember it albeit a little more built up, with the trucks queing up the hill to get into Turkey. Still looks like part of the road is dirt. I have good reason to remember that hill as like many got stuck on it and was rescued with a tow from a Hungarian Camion wag and drag. In the morning an Iraq soldier on horse back, horse wipped a Turk tonker driver that was que jumping.Quite an event full day.Things look a bit more civilised on the Turk side with trucks lined up in a yard instead of along the road.
Keep up that Toprun site Ferdy it brings back memorys for us guys
Regards Keith.

I liked the 3D version, the new road looks good to travel on, It made me a little dizzy to see the ariel view, I must have been mad to travel up and down that several times, I would never do it now for all the tea in China, the older I get, the more I am getting scared of heights, :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Right 2465 m is quite high :unamused: use to that in Switzerland :sunglasses:

The best of all is that we are two Swiss Trucks leaving for Tehran next week !!!
Not sure yet if we go all by road (exYU-BG-TR via Kapikule) or ferry (Ancona - Patras then TR via Ipsala)

Coudln’t wait to start! :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you remember the small 1 pump diesel garage at the bottom of tihir,in the winter watching the snow coming down, knowing at the top the snow was coming down like footballs,my arse was making buttons.select your gear at the bottom and stay with it up and down, the turkish graders waiting to push you over the top if you broke down, that 1 kilometer from the top was worse,as the engine seemed to die,you think you had made it then you met the beast, the biggest turk you have ever seen with a gang of men, armed, asking for diesel tax.
