Anyone know what sort of work Taft do these days, what they’re like to work for, money, the usual stuff?
not really rang them last year 420 all in away all week i was told but this may of changed now
their website (and facebook page) say they’re not looking for drivers at the mo
Loved it when I was there 10 years ago doing airfreight. Never had a problem with Alison and Richard who run it.
They run fridges now, Benelux mostly, can’t be doing too bad as they seem to replace their fleet quite regulary. It’s an all RHD fleet (volvos) these days
Harry, have you tried Clan international in Husk’s yard? They aint a bad lot to work for, it’s fairly hard work (not much empty running) but a good bunch.

Quite the opposite for both those cpmpanies when i worked for them, happiest jobs I ever had to be honest Clan are owned by Fullers so the wages are done in Slough, but a good bunch I found. Can’t speak for Sealane though, never worked for them

Sorry I must be missing the obvoius but who is the comment aimed at ?
Back to the Question both Clan and Taft are good solid companies if that says anything these days. As someone who shares the same suppliers as them there suppliers are more complimentary about them than they are about Sealane.
Not wishing to state the obvious …oh well I will any comapany who who has a block booking in T & D and Trucking for the last 20 years and yet not significantly growing their fleet suggests something ?

Still going ahead, posted off the O licence application on Saturday. Should be on the road early June.

Do me a favour, I’ve spent most of this year doing traction for Sealane and they are excellent in every respect if you enjoy being patronised by University-educated 20-something hooray-Henrys who don’t have a clue about the job every time the phone rings.
Everyone in Sealane’s yard at Husks is fine, but the twerps at Harlpleden make me want to bang my head against a brick wall every time they phone me with one of their idiotic instructions.
I know from experience - and have mentioned it in previous posts - Clan is hard work, there is hardly any empty running and they will find internal UK loads when running you between a UK tipping destination and your export reload. To my mind, that’s not ‘All work’ that’s a very efficient, slick operation. In this day and age it’s also a good way of securing the company.
If all work and no pay means you’re not prepared to do an honest day’s work for an honest days pay, then perhaps you should reconsider your career choice. All the time I was working for Clan (freelancing) I never had a problem with either John or Barry in the office. In fact on a couple of occassions when Slough messed up payment of some invoices, they arranged an advance and done all they could to chase up Fullers head office.
I also had a very good relationship with Alison and Richard Taft when I worked for them. I was paid on time every week, I kept my head down and done the work I was asked (he who pays the piper calls the tune). The result of that was I was considered first for the ‘glory’ jobs and the jobs that involved overtime. Not one to blow my own trumpet, a few of the companies Taft subbed a bit of work off used to ask for me personally (Mark at Active Transport immediately springs to mind). Alison was largly instrumental in helping me out with both work and advice when I decided to go self employed and start Freelancing - a move which ultimately vastly increased my earning potential and skills base.
If you make waves you’re going to have a bumpy ride, if you knuckle down and do what you’re paid to do (what I was earning with both companies was more than adequate) you’ll be fine.
Talking of which Harry, have you tried phone Mark at Active Transport (Dover Heights) he has some quite interseting work.

Good luck with the new venture Harry.
Wouldn’t mind some more picture diaries with you and the wee fella out on the road again in the future…
