Is it just me or has anyone else noticed cars being left in lay-bys to stop us using them?
Just tried to park up for the night. I know a couple of decent lay-bys just off the m5 at Weston but both had a couple of cars in parked just right to stop a lorry parking there.

I’ve had this before when I woke up and found cars parked 2 inches from the front and back! basically blocking me in.
Its the shift workers that liftshare and use the lay-by as the rendezvous point, they don’t think a lorry might need to park there so they don’t bother there arse about parking logically.
Has anyone noticed lorry’s parking 2 a breast in laybys to stop cars getting in ?
“From the dawn of time, there would be a single old banger car parked in a layby in such a position that one could not safely squeeze an artic in both in front and behind it without going into the bushes…”
I used to think that this was brudders reserving a place for their caravaned bretheren following along later, or somewhere for them to find the fairground tractor with the 1975 numberplates on it to lie low for the night.
These days - I don’t know any different - so it becomes fact in the post-truth age.
A neighbour of mine was blocked in by a stranger who had parked close behind his car outside his gaff. I saw him come out in a bit of a hurry, clocked the strangers car and started shouting out to find the owner, then beeping the horn. Nobody turned up, there was then a few effs and jeffs about what would happen if the thoughtless owner didn’t show (or words to that effect), no-one showed…
He then proceeded to back his car up slowly to the bumper of the offending vehicle, so they were gently touching, then pushed the other car right out of the way. No damage done at all. I’d loved to have seen the other blokes face at finding his vehicle in the road (quiet backstreet)
. It was quite impressive to watch actually
If someone blocks you in, well with the police either non existent or far far away, what else can you do?
Truck drivers do not own lay bys. Another example of drivers working for skint flint bosses who expect them to sleep with no meaningful ammenities.
if the car pays road tax he has every right to park there. Why would it be classed as tactical blocking â– â– How you can say the layby was not full of cars during the day?
No different to flip flops getting upset when you oark in a space in a layby that they’ve “reserved” for their mate.
I dearly respect their wishes and move on, after an hour.
I think you’re giving them too much credit, half can barely find the indicator stalk. It’s just parking without thinking about others.
Beat me to it DJC,most car drivers operate in their own little world oblivious of any one else’s needs.

That’s more…
To do with getting to the lay-by with no more driving time left and having to block the entrance off in order to get parked.

Well, I suppose that is in a different utopia in reality, they should have tow trucks at every layby to remove all cars. How dare they use a space.

if you park and know itl be crammed later…drop the legs, pull the pin, draw out a bit and reserve your own exit space for the morning…itl also mean your cab wont be rocking during the night if it windy and your the sensitive type that cant sleep…

I never said truck drivers do own lay-bys and yes I know that cars have as much right as anyone to park in them but recently I’ve been noticing more and more lay-bys seem to have one or two cars parked in them in such a way that it’s impossible to park a lorry there.
BTW the company I work for so pay for parking but I would rather stop in a nice quiet lay-by than some noisy service area that stinks of urine.
My only thoughts on this is : Are we also not car drivers, who also go out for the day, who also stop in laybys…so its about time we gave car drivers a bit of slack imo…It can make you angry when heading for a certain parking place, only to find its full, or not enough space, whether it be cars or trucks…i have been in one such place where a car driver came to mme and asked if i would like him to move…i told him to reverse and park behind which is what he did. Too much Truck driver against car drivers in my opinion…when maybe a bit of courtesy would suffice. Btw i prefer laybys myself to a truck park or services…doesnt matter about the cost cos i dont pay anyway…but i find more peace and quiet…depending on the layby.
