Just started a new job yesterday and just wanted some advice. I am on night shift driving and could be driving a different lorry each night. Should i bring my tacho cards with me even if its not from that lorry. Also i park the lorry in the yard after finishing my shift but pick it up at a different location, But the driver that moves the lorry never uses the tachograph so what happens if i get stopped and they blame me for missing tacho cards when i was not driving?

Hope all this makes sense
If stopped you are required by law to produce all records from the present shift and the previous 28 calendar days
YOU are responsible for what YOU do - what anyone else does when you are not there is of no concern to your situation
It doesn’t matter what vehicle you’re driving the law requires you to carry all the charts you’ve used for the current day and the previous 28 days, you also need to carry your driver card if you have one, even if it hasn’t been used.
By different location presumably you mean the vehicle has been parked in a different place in the yard, missing mileage on the vehicle isn’t your problem.
When you say different location, what do you mean by that?
I mean that i park the lorry at our yard when i finish my shift in the morning, The lorry is then used but a different guy during the day but when is finished his shift, he leaves the lorry at the bakery for me, so then can have it loaded when i get to work

I mean that i park the truck in our yard but pick it up at the bakery the next night. Its 15-20mins drive from our yard (where i leave it)
At the end of your shift each day take the tacho disc or digi card out and take it home with you, along with all the others from the previous 28 shifts. Bring them all in the next day and put in a new disc or your digi card.
Repeat the above every day you work and you will be fine. Remember to hand the discs in to the transport manager / office after they are 28 days old but before they are 42 days old. Also a digi card will only store 28 days data so ensure you have it downloaded fairly regularly.

Well, that was the assumption but the last time I downloaded my card at home there was a few months worth of data…As your man say’s though,it’s wise to download regularly.
Oh,and in case your not sure or worried, the missing mileage is not your problem, whatever happens to your motor when you’re not there is not accountable to you.

You are legally required to record that 15 - 20 mins by way of a manual entry
A driver card is designed to hold a minimum of 28 days of data but in reality will hold many months of data, from what I’ve read on here I would say an average would be nine to eleven months of data held on the driver card.
The company have a legal obligation to download the data from the driver card no later than 28 days from the day after the last download.
The drivers only legal obligation is to make the card available for download.
Out of curiosity, how do you get from the bakery to your depot when youve finished your shift? (Assuming you get to work by car)
The company is responsible for keeping records of who was driving what vehicle at which time. The tacho will log the time when the vehicle is used as well.
How do you know the other driver isn’t using a card? A 15 minute journey is a bit much to risk not using a card.

Depends where he’s starting work at rog … if he’s starting at the yard and getting a lift yes if he’s going straight to the bakery no …

I leave my car in the yard( base) I then pick up a caddy van, driver to bakery and start my nights work. I go out in the lorry and do my run and leave the lorry back at the yard. When the day shift lad comes in he drives the truck to the bakery and does his run, once finished he drives bake to the bakery and brings back the caddy van to the yard for me that night.
Ye and also I use paper tacho cards.
I probably suppose to record my trip in the caddy van as part of my days work but not sure how. As I said I only new to driving and only getting the feels of things.

I don’t think the guy I work for has no transport manager. I could be wrong on this as I just started with him a few days ago. He doesn’t actually drive himself as he has other business interests to keep him busy during the day. He just has two trucks leased from a well know scania dealer her in ireland and they maintain the trucks. Will ask him after 28 days if he wants my card tacho cards and see what he says.
Use the back of the chart to record your journey in the van as a manual entry. This should be done as you are in a works vehicle and getting paid to be there.
He must have a cpc holder in order to have an operators licence. You can find out who this is by searching the VOSA website.
As it’s analogue cards I still don’t know how you would know he’s not using a card unless he’s told you. Anyway, that’s down to him. Just look after no.1

Just draw a curved line to show other work, as shown for “manual entries” in the image bellow, except your line will show a curved line for the 15 minutes or so that you travel to the bakery.
Use a felt tipped pen so that the line doesn’t show through the chart and interfere with the trace on the front of the chart.
Ignore the rest of the stuff on the image, it’s for changing vehicles so doesn’t affect you.
I can’t fault what everyone else it telling you reference what to do with the cards. Keep for 28 days carry then with you whenever you’re working and hand then in within 42 days of the date on the card
Reference the drive to the bakery in the van. I wouldn’t even bother tbh I it’s less than half an hour especially not if it’s in the same town.
If start and finish towns are different then perhaps record it as other work in the manner Tachograph has described.
