Your old tachocard expires on 31st July 2021, and your new tachocard starts on 1st August 2021.
Is it legal to do a 4 hour drive starting at 20.30 on 31st July 2021 so that you don’t finish driving until 00:30 on 1st August 2021 using just the old card?
To be honest you may be okay with that because 0030 would be 2330 UTC.
Had similar situation on nights few months back, stopped just after midnight and put new card in.
I could be wrong, but I believe the head unit will spit out the card if you happen to be driving at the moment it expires. Your only legal option at that point would be to stop at the next safe place and do a handwritten entry to record your driving time from ejection up until that point (you can’t do a manual input on the new card as it will go straight into logging in without offering the option of manual input).
I’m sure there must be other night drivers on here who have experienced this?

From what I remember, when my card expired at midnight it was spat out, stopped and put the new card in and carried on.
