Just watched Switchlogics video. I have a question, What’s a split rest? never heard of it so it looks like i have something else to learn.

3 hours and then 9 but counts as full rest.
Awaits ROG telling me I am wrong.
a split rest is when you have a 20 minute break
and then another 20 minute rest later
villa:

In what regulation is this stated?

If you’re doing more than 4½ driving that would be called an illegal break rather than a split rest
As has been said a split daily rest period is when you have 3 consecutive hours rest during the shift then have another rest period of at-least 9 consecutive hours after the shift has finished.
As always for a single manned trip, this has to be completed within the 24 hour period from the start of the shift, and does not count as a reduced daily rest period.

think you need to do some reading … you’ve shown your ignorance in the sentence by commenting on REST an BREAK which are 2 completely different things … z- go back to school

This is what i am thinking and i stand to be corrected.
Work/drive 3 hours and then rest 3 hours. Do it again twice and then have a 9 hour rest?
The advantage comes if you are needing to only have 9 hour rest at the end of the day but have no reducers left. Take 3 consecutive hours earlier in the day and you can count it as a full rest.
Not quite right Mickey,
All you have to do is fit 3 hours continuous rest in at some point during your shift, ie whilst waiting to tip, you can then reduce your daily rest to 9 hours but it does not use one of your 3 reduced daily rests available to you in that week.

That would work, as long as you have at-least one rest period of 3 consecutive hours or more during the shift then the last rest period can be 9 hours or more.
Are you sure that he didn’t mean interrupted rest which we use a lot on the ferries?

No.

What??!?
Mickey, if you take a 3 hour break during your shift, and then take a 9 hour daily rest, as long as the 9 hour rest completed is within 24 hours of starting your previous duty then it doesn’t have to count as one of your 3 reduced rests for the week.
Ignore whatever ^^^^ he said, mate

A good point Sarge.
I forgot to point out the 24h duty+rest limit.

cheers lol trust me i laughed when i had seen that.
I took it has he meant it was a split rest(ferry mode). He docked at 6.00pm(or was it a 6 hour crossing, I can’t remember) and he started at midnight! Apologies if I am incorrect.
