am looking at analogue tacho analysis where you can scan them and download them rather than posting them the scanners are advertised at around £570 is there another way off doing it without paying 570 for a scanner
With an analogue tacho there are only really two choices, post the charts off to somebody with a scanner or buy one yourself. Either way it would be cheaper long-term to upgrade to a digital tacho.
The days of running one of these over the chart are well and truly over.
I believe Tachomaster have a system where you can upload a photocopy of the chart and it will be analysed.
I don’t know if you can upload a normal A4 size scan but if it works with A4 size photocopies I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with an A4 sized scan.

The Chartwell checker is still a handy piece of kit for a driver to keep things right, some of the analysis software or staff leave a lot to be desired. Even after expensive analysis, if the big bad bear finds something wrong, the operator will still get to meet Beverley for coffee
I write my times/modes down allday long so at any moment i know my daily and weekly totals and when a job comes on i know to say yes or no, surely any owner operator who needs tacho scanning for analogue is in the wrong job.
wrong job ? am running three so checking my own is not an issue keeping a check of the other two which i do can be aided by tacho analysis which means i can spend time doing other things and there is plenty of other stuff to be doing writing down your modes all day is all well and good if your punching up and down a motorway all day multi dropping and shunting round different sites is another story
I use optac kit and bought a deal on 5 year licensing for the software. Although I paid around £1000 for all the kit, including digital downloading kit for the new truck, card reader and analogue scanner I still think it was worth it. It’s the time inputting all the information for the analogue charts that’s annoying!
I can’t wait until all our trucks are digital!
The scanner is expensive. I would still use optac for producing the drivers letters and analysing the data though.
A Chartwell chart checker is still a useful piece of kit, but digital tachographs have been standard fitment for seven or eight years now so analogue fitted trucks are coming to the end of their life. Obviously, analogue tachograph users have implied “Grandfathers’ Rights”.
But the simple fact in 2013 is that whether you run one truck or are Eddie Stobart, if you use the digital tachograph then VOSA expect you to do chart analysis. I use a Digidown Plus for the downloads and Tachomaster for the analysis but I wouldn’t say that’s the way to go, just the way that seemed best for me.
Or maybe I’m wrong. If I am, I’m wasting £6 a month trying too hard to operate legally.
Out of intrest is that £6 for the package or would that be per truck

As I recall It’s £2 a month for each truck and £1 a week for each driver or something like that. So for me it’s £2 + £4. Plus VAT of course.
I had to buy one of these, a Lisle Digidown Plus, it was £200.
It seems to do the job.
I had a similar one from tacho disc was no monthly charge but had to renew every year so probably worked out about the same.
