The tacho is there for you to record what you do so if you use digicard then insert as appropriate and do manual entries for anything else done
If using analogue then I would use a second card and mark them 1 of 2 and 2 of 2
As rog said remember you could have a split REST then and not use a 15
If you use analogue it is acceptable to write the new start Milage and finish ,places ect on the back of the card (so I was once told ).
If you start at 6.30 every morning just leave the card in on break when you leave the truck. Then when you go back later just continue as normal.
As has been said above this will also increase your chances for split break.
No problem if it’s digi, just make sure if it’s analogue to get the chart out before it runs over the 24 hours

you could just if analogue drop the card out and leave it till the next day as long as no-one else is using the truck, you would just put a manual entry on the back if you go back in…
Thanks lads it is analogue and I have done 2 of the above 1st I did start leaving it in on break but sometimes it went over the 24 hours if I had no work by a few minutes sometimes so I’ve started filling the back in when I’ve had to go back to work but I was thinking if I was pulled would I have to record anything on the back for the missing few hours

missing hours are regarded as being off duty and the only way you can be done is if you were working or driving during those missing hours but no harm in doing a manual entry on the back of the second analogue card for the missing hours

Cannot remember but am I right in saying that if the front has the finish date etc filled in then a new card has to be used ?
Can’t remember the full info, but someone I know got stopped and had 125 k card in rather than 180 k ,vosa man got him to put a used 180 k card in for the rest of the journey that had room on it for the time of day they drew pen lines on to separate the recordings and put the new details on the back.

I’m not sure TBH, its been that long since i looked at a chart i can’t even remember if there’s a date option on the back. I suppose either way is fine. I’d just be inclined to keep one day on one chart if i could.
I am going to stick with filling the back in I think that’s right thanks anyway I appreciate your help and advice.

The back of the chart should be completed with a manual entry for the missing time, just draw a curved line for break/rest, personally I would also draw radial lines on the back for the end and start of duty times for the rest period between jobs.

All the activities for the period between daily rest periods should be recorded either automatically or manually, failure to do manual entries carries a possible fixed penalty of £200.
Does that mean that after say, 11 hours off you’re supposed to manually enter it as break when starting the next shift?

Not sure a legal requirement is there to show records when a driver is between jobs ?
What if the driver did a 6 hour shift for agency 1 then went home for 3 hours then did a 4 hour shift for agency 2 ?
The 3 hours would be commuting and/or relaxing at home … and not working for any employer

The time would be a break/rest period and should be recorded as such by a manual entry.
I don’t see that it matters who your working for it’s part of the same working day.

No because you’re starting a new working day, although some companies I’ve worked for with analogue tachographs require you to either write or draw radial lines for the start and end of duty time.
Ah fair enough, that’s what I thought. I hate manual entries, they seem to be my only infringements when I mess them up. I try to avoid them at all cost.

Why? You’re supposed to only use one chart and fill in the details of the second vehicle on the rear of it. And as he starts at 6.30am and can only do a max 15hr spread over then the end date is still going to be the same.
