I will need to hire 7.5t truck for house move as most of removal company asking for about £800+, I wonder if I need to use tacho if is for private use, move is about 160 miles away and I would like to get done everything in one day so I can keep the cost of hire down. I phone hire company and they claiming that I don’t need to but I better be safe then sorry and ask the question here.

As long as it’s for private use you’re exempt from EU regulations for a vehicle that does not exceed 7.5t, and as it’s not for commercial use it’s also exempt from domestic rules.
So the hire company was correct
