To be honest I don’t remember seeing points for infringements mentioned
Are you by any chance thinking of the way VOSAs traffic light system works
Our company started this system about 2/3 yrs ago, instead of keep going up in front of the h/r dept every 5 minutes, the T/M decided on the points system.
For every infringement we get 3 points, We are called into the traffic office to sign that we acknowledge the wrongdoing, and maybe give an explanation, a couple of days later we receive a letter, within our wage slip, telling us that we are forgiven, when we reach the maximum 18 points, we are then called into the main office for a disciplinary, and we are asked why these infringements are continuing, and do we need any help with the transport/wtd regulations. we are offered as much help as we need, and our excuses are acted upon. For example, if we say the planners are at fault, or it was beyond our control, the t/m will deal with it. If it continues, you could lose your job.
After the disciplinary, the points reduce back to zero once more. I think its a good system, and works well, but sometimes its all too easy to collect them.
has your company or it’s employees had problems with vosa in the past? your company system may just be to show something is being done to combat any past problems with regular or large infringements causing the company to be fined.
just a thought.

To be honest I don’t see the point
Why not just discipline drivers who reach a certain number of infringements within a given time period, if you get 3 points for every infringement you’re going to be in trouble when you get 6 infringements so why complicate things with pointless points.

They didn’t take the Driver shortage in account
We dont have a points system, but if you get too many infringements over an unspecified time, ie the the compliance manager is having a bad day, that day, then its in for a morning indoctrination. I got 5 overspeeds in one week once, and had to fill out a questionaire about speed limits and confirm that there were no faults with the speed limiter. My mate went down a bank on the M6 in the lake district in excess of 100 ks and was sent on a mornings driver training, this involved driving round suffolk with an empty skell and driving instructor. dead cool really coz other wise we’d be working for a living

I think we may have only got half the story here as some companies have a similar system but it is not strictly limited to Tacho Infringements. They also add points from 1 to 3 at a time for other things. i.e. clipping a post whilst manoeuvring, leaving vehicles without fuel, leaving vehicles filthy. If thats the case, the tacho infringements wouldn’t pick up on them. Its called a virtual driving licence.

Now that’s a whole different story, if other things are coming into it I can see how it might make sense
