Is your driver card in the VDU when they do this less comprehensive download ?

The reason I ask is because I believe that on type 2 tachographs, with the company card in slot 2 they can download the card data from slot 1.

Apart from that I’ve no idea.

Tachograph is right however…

With most download devices you can do a ‘full’ download which is everything from when that company card was locked in or you can do a ‘latest’ download which is data since the last download.

It is probably good practice to do as you say the company is to help ensure no loss of data just in case something goes wrong.

Is there any benefit to downloading a driver card whilst still in slot 1, as opposed to putting the card into the slot on the actual reader?
Boss was told on a DCPC course (so it must be true) that the card is “better downloaded” if left in the vdu. He’s had no issues when I’ve downloaded using the readers’ card slot.

ok but what information does the download tell them ?

Same info you would get on your driver card, but shows every movement even with no card in (i.e. Shunting around the yard). It also gives overspeed info, and a detailed speed trace. The early vu’s would hold about 5 days speed data, not sure if recent vu’s hold more speed data. It also give fault code info such as power losses or sensor faults.

what about if you have a pto fitted would it show pto use

A full download shows all recorded data on the head unit irrespective of who was driving, I believe they store 3 months driving data.

It will also show all activities done without drivers card inserted. That may answer your question

The head stores a minimum of 365 days of data.

my reason for asking is i have been told that the head can tell the company exactley how long and when you are using the PTO so they can monitor when you tipping and when your not but i cant see anywhere that this is possible i thought it could tell the total hours pto was used but thats it, as you can tell our time is being monitored

I don’t think the tacho head will tell when the pto is engaged. You would need a telematics system for that, I.e. Linked to the tracking system.

Don’t know if it’s still the same but time spent using the pto during a working day used to show up as a ? Don’t know if it’s still the same though.
