No its not required as training vehicles are exempt from the Drivers hours regs. However any candidate that does have one when they attend the course benefits from being shown how to use it in an everyday environment throughout the training which of course helps prepare them for life after training.

So that’ll disable all the modes. Not much to learn there then 
Just kidding. It’s great that some trainers go to that length. Many students just get their licence and that’s it. The more help before entering the industry the better.
I had a tacho card before I started training (as I’d been a 7.5T driver for years) and was never asked to put it in, either for class 2 or class 1.
