T Brady & Son

stobart originally took the contract but kimbrely clark wernt happy with them so asked brady to go back but it was to late i think tdg took over from there stobart took over the mcbride contract as result of brady packing up again they wernt happy cuz stobart wouldnt leave stand trailers!!!

.

I met a few of the drivers from Brady’s whilst on my travels and still think about these friends I made. Often wonder what they are doing now. I have a photo of myself in the driving seat of one of the trucks which was taken at Sheppey which incidently was the town, where I was born. Liz

.

What happened to Ray Steele I thought he had the McBride contract.

Not sure i think he was poss runnin along side brady ( do recall seeing some other hauliers in mcbrides at the time) when they were doing it and poss took over after stobart left !!!

That rings back memories one of those 111 scanias was used as a yard shunter at the kimberly clark northfleet depot last time i saw it!!!

.

Met some of the drivers on the road. Remember Tarby, Andrew, Reg and John. If anyone knows how they are doing, it would be lovely to hear from them. Liz

i work with an ex brady driver called peter clark also there was an article not to long back in t + d about bradys, had a few good pictures included. stobarts did have the kimberly clark contract when i worked for them 2005/06 we use to run paper up from northfleet to barrow…pete

Would this be the Peter Clarke who had a fluffy elephant called Gladys hanging in his windscreen?,

IIRC, he lived in Grange and became an owner driver, after he left Bradys.

I remember a guy called Frank Sleddon? who used to do a night trunk, from Barrow to their depot at West Brom I think.

I met Young Bob a few times, smashing bloke. Shame I couldn’t say the same about Neil :smiling_imp:

Who are you on for now Pete?

I HAVE ALL WAYS COLLECTED BRADY PHOTOS AND OTHER BITS FOR YEARS KNOW I THINK THEY WHERE ONE OF THE BEST ON THE ROAD ANY NEW PHOTOS WOULD BE A GREAT ASSET TO MY COLLECTION[/b]

Would you care to share some of your photos■■? as i also reckon brady had one of the best liveries not like most of todays any colour as long as its white jobs you could always tell a brady wagon was comin by the livery!!! thanks

I WILL VERY HAPPLY SHEAR PHOTOS OF MINE WITH OTHERS ONE BRADY FAN TO ANOTHER THERE SHOULD BE MORE OUT THERE TOP CLASS FLEET

not too sure if its the same one kate, i know that he did a bit for formula 1 as a driver and he also worked for pulleyns out of reading. he still lives up around the lakes though we are based in runcorn. i work for h. fruend kate. hope it is the same bloke want to ask him about his fluffy elephant!..pete

I remember Bradys very well.Didn’t they work out of British Cellophane (Courtaulds) in Barrow as well? Maybe that was Athersmiths.I used to tip in B.Cellophane when on tankers in the 70s and run into Glaxo Ulverston to backload.I’m sure there was a Brady driver lived there 'cos I remember having a drink with him one or two nights. His name ecapes me though, sorry.
A nice tidy-looking fleet they had.

Kate, don’t recall a fluffy elephant though

Peter Clarke had a bit of a beard, and I think he wore clogs, although my memory aint what it used to be. I guess he’d be late 50’s now. Bradys used to bring their motors into Keltruck at West Brom for maintenance, and he always seemed to be parked in the middle of the yard. :exclamation: Easily recognised by the elephant, its funny what sticks in your mind. :unamused:
I did quite a bit of hitch hiking on trade plates, and Bradys were usually a safe bet for a lift, amongst many others, such as Bakers, Bowmurs, Toleman, RD’s, Brian Palmer, McKelvie and most of the fleets running in and out of Felixstowe.
Not wishing to hijack the thread, but a few other ■■■■■■■■ names spring to mind now, Taylors of martley had a trunk run from carlisle to worcester. There was Dirty Dog -Stuart, Gypsy Dog - Lenny and Ted the day man.
Long time ago now though. Small world but I wouldn’t like to paint it.
