This truck was Bill Arnolds.
My Father Bob Coulson drove OVH 104 M also a Crusader. Iam his son Billy who used to travel all over with him.
Dad was based at Total terminal in Hunslet before moving out to Woodlesford.

Would that be Frank Maud?
If so he was based at Woodlesford.

Hi
My father too worked for Shaws Fuels out of Woodlesford.
I was a frequent traveller with my dad, on as many occasions as possible. IO remember you father Trevor, I believe he ended up working for the terminal, iof I am not mistaken. My dad Bob Coulson drove the Crusader, along with Eric Peacock, They still keep in touch. Then when he left Donald Peace shared the truck with my father.
I do have some pictures I will see if I can get them on this web site
Regards
Billy

Morrissey:
Its fantastic to see these picture cos its takes me back to when I used to go to work with my dad as a kid.One of the best wagons he had was the Scammell Crusader,he still says they had the best engines in them and they didn’t arf shift with their Rolls Royce engines! The number plate was LHD 212L.I remember Scammells with the ribbed Cab…routman? If anyone has anymore pictures of Shaws or Sykes/Shaws,Sheaf, it would be great to see them.My dad was Trevor Watson if it rings a bell with anyone.

Thanks very much,Billy im sure my dad would love to see some more pictures. He really liked his time with Shaws and Syke/Shaws and still tells me stories and his experencies on the road.I loved going with him in the school holidays but I guess the health’n’safety brigade would put the block on that now! He worked for various companies afterwards including Nickersons,Cawoods and then for BFL before working for Gordon Teale ,now sadly no longer with us,at Big T Oils before retiring, regards Trevor jnr.

you got in one mate it is well over 20 tears since I worked there but being a shop steward on the bulk liquids I knew Frank quite well as we were all in the oil branch so that we were able to go into the oil terminals and refinery’s as the union was very strong then and if you did not have a union card you were unable to load and when other depots were busy or short of drivers we would work out of them. I worked out of “Newbridge” Edinburgh when it opened for 3/4 weeks while they set local drivers on and though I always preferred the the bulk liquids and tramping as it gave you a far wider variety of work to fuel oil and Petrol .
cheers Johnnie

Apologies for the photo not being in the best of condition

This picture takes me back - I started my tanking career on one of these, 3 months running gas oil out of Woodlesford before being ‘promoted’ to a Scammell Crusader!

Thanks to Sniffy for this one copied from another thread:

I can remember Brian Rhodes had a Leyland 8 wheeler, cant remember who he shared it with. I was only a kid at the time but i was with my old man and Brian at immingham one Saturday morning and i rode back to leeds in the Leyland for the change, the F86 was a much better motor though lol. Looking at the post above with the T reg Daf i dont think they were the last of the Sykes trucks. There was some Y reg F7 Tractors, my dad had AHD 504Y for a while new before it went onto the bulk liquid side. Think he got a new Merc 1625 tractor SWE 850Y, which funnily enough i saw years later in Sanmar containers yard been used as a yard shunter. It was painted in Sykes livery before being repainted in Cawoods colours

Another Sykes rig
