Muckaway:
I’m getting fed up with new regime in our transport office, ringing up to ask what’s the hold up onsite, can you do extra load etc etc: I’m thinking of turning the phone off whilst driving (we have handsfree) and just checking it a.couple of times a day. Is this a good idea or do you think I’m leaving myself open to “problems”?
Never have answered mine Nathan not from the office anyway, I ring them back later they have never asked why I don’t answer.
I ignored them this afternoon, they were ringing to ask what hold up was (seem to be turning into Earthline) but weighbridge were asked to tell me they were calling. Didn’t ring them back with an explanation there was a rep onsite so I let him worry…Ran out of hot water though which pleased me not…

So you recon were in for a spray job then I thought the green and red was nice, we can’t go red it’s common but it’s been proved red trucks go faster
Been there, done that! If it’s your own phone then turn it off, however if it is a company phone they have issued it for a good reason…to get the maximum amount of work from their ‘unit’ ie the truck and you! Therefore they would presumably expect you to have the bloomin thing turned on at all times while they try to juggle loads and know when to expect you back at base etc, I assume that the other drivers have the same amount of calls to deal with during the day or do they just pick on you because they know that you will do your utmost to please them and justify your role as Number One driver?
leave phone on but have it on vibrate or silent when i use to deliver cars for a dealership we were told phones had to be off so we wernt distracted or breaking law by using phones whilst driving yet we used to get moaned like hell when the boss couldnt get hold of us so used to keep phone on silent or vibrate

Pete.
No this is in general Pete: Off hand I can think of 3 drivers who’ve seen a big increase in the “is there a problem” and “can you do one more?” type phone calls…
Sometimes I ignore the phone if I think I’m getting ■■■■■■ about too much. Only sometimes it backfires and when I return to the yard or ring them back find that for once they have got something just around the corner from where I was. So in trying to avoid getting ■■■■■■ about I make things worse.
I don’t use a phone whilst driving. As far as I know it’s illegal.
Even with a so-called “hands free” gadget, you are going to be distracted if driving around ‘devil’s elbow’ and the like eh?
I’ve been Banned from Site (sacked from indivudual agency client) because I refused to have a switched-on phone in my cab whilst on duty. The “client” didn’t even supply an in-cab phone of their own! As I don’t actually own one of my own either, one could argue I’ve been discriminated against, but so many people DO have them, I let it go. I did however report them to VOSA for running 75 hour weeks and trying to get around it by booking drivers off when on POA waiting to be tipped/backloaded. Chicken [zb] outfit - 'nuff said.
I still have a clean license, so guess who doesn’t give a hoot!?
Think I’ll take Winseers’ advice, phone off but switch on occasionally for messages etc…my cbs on the blink so if that goes I shalnt replace it and get back to enjoying driving…
If im on 45mins or daily rest both personal & work phones go on silent. Im adamant Norfolkline deliberately look the tracker and phone when your parked up…
“Can you call in at so and so?” - “OK” cut straight off.
“Where are you?” - “10 minutes.” They don’t want to know where I am - they want to know how long I will be.
If there is going to be a discussion I cut 'em off and ring back when I can.
I just played 5 min with my Phone around and every Time the Woman phoned me rang her second Phone, but when she switched over on her Phone-Computer no one was on the Line, till someone lifted the Handle of the Phone next Table and talked with her.
Dont know if it was the Reason that i lost the job shortly afterthen
a mate i used to work with either did that or put it on silent, one day the office were ringing round all the other drivers sounding worried, to see if they’d seen him as they been trying to get hold of him for a couple of hours. when he woke up it turned out he’d had a bit more than his planned 45 minutes kip
