HI All

We do some euro work from time to time , Mostly holland , belgium , france etc , done denmark , spain and gibraltar too … Sweden is a new one , Is anyone familiar with trucking in sweden and know of anything to look out for ,

Height limit
tolls / tax charges

also whether it works out cheapest to take a ferry into gorthenberg from harwich or drive ■■

Thanks all

Possibly the worlds most expensive ferry crossing !immingham to gothenburg, we have four, slightly oversize loads going over next week, and i do meen a little bit oversized, ferry will be costing me 12.5k return… best of luck mate !

the legal height limit is 6.0m, most run at 4.2-4.5m so if you ship direct from the uk you’ll have no problem. the eurovignette is the tax, same as in benelux.

Hi Rob.Just watch out for speed camera’s in villages,it can cost you min 2000kr for speeding. :frowning:
If your coming to Sweden through the winter,BE prepared, even in the south they can have very bad weather. We’ve already had a couple of light snowfalls up here and temps to min5c so you don’t know when the winter starts. :open_mouth: Take care.Mike

Thanks guys !!

Any rules on snow chains in september / early october ■■ , is it a good idea anyway ■■

Which way is the most sensible - boat or to drive ■■

thanks

You won’t need chains now, but get them if you are going to have more trips up there later.
The sticky says chains are not compulsory, but if you get into bad weather, you won’t be going anywhere without them.

Eksjö is pretty far south, so you shouldn’t have any problems yet.

No idea about the ferry, sorry…

My job is to alvsbyn, boss said its not very far on the map, just outside gothenburg…?

Richmond… Your boss is evil, and must hate your guts  Or, he has a very small map :unamused:
Try putting älvsbyn into google maps…

Edit:

I found an other place called alvsby, which is a bit to the east of stockholm…
But your boss is still being mean to you :grimacing:

Just looked, then i asked, yep its the one up north, this may take a tad longer, it a bakery i think, polar bred factory…It the bleeding artic circle…I dont do the cold very well…at all, i prefer to fry than to freeze, i may well bail…

Hi my first post and its about my job ! I truck weekly to Sweden mostly to the west coast ie: Varberg/Goteborg or the central belt. Your first trip is a mamouth one - I did Umea (you most be going 200k’s further north) in winter your average 500ks a day max!

Typically I go Dover/Dunkirk to Gent top off he trailer and rest then to Travemunde and take the TT line to Trelleborg since I’ve been on a wagon an drag I’ve been using Travemunde to Malmo on Finnlines boats aren’t as are ok but not up to TT lines

The cheapest way is Dover calais/dunlirk then drive to puttgarten ferry to rodby then across DK and go Helsinger to Hellsingborg. I prefer to let the truck travel by boat and get a decent sleep

Service areas are very good, motorways are toll free and very good. When it snows it snows and things take longer the thing is on the motorways often its clear but down to one lane so your stuck behind a 65t 24mtr milk tanker and not even doing 40k !

I writing this in Mcdonalds in Trelleborg and waiting for my boat back home at 2 am if you need to know more just shout

Hi, do they have the euro vignette in sweden now or not? we are going imm to gothen burg cos they are over width an over length, its just a lot easier to go that way than to get the permits and escorts the long way round, and we coming back that way , cos boss reckons we get lost too easily…and best not confuse us…nice ferry break think its 22 or 24 hrs.

Hi Richmond.I’ve just looked at the weather for next week and they forecast rain with temps between 5 and 15c so you should be ok for weather. As i live 1200kms north of Stokholm, that makes Älvsbyn 1000kms north just to the left of LuleÃ¥ so it’s a nice trip on the E4.Take care.Mike

Hutpik, keep an eye out and wave if you see us, just heard that im not going now, but we have four silos going over, one with a tractor unit and three un accompanied, the one driver will take them up to alvsbyn tip , then solo back to goth get next trl , take to site and unload, then stack the two trls and return to goth for shipping back empty, then same agin with the other two, |we estimate about 28 days out there so you may well see him popping around, raindeer burger to go no doubt !Im not bitter , as i said i dont like the cold…

yes

Belgium, Luxemburg, Netherlands Denmark, and Sweden

Hi hunpik can you please tell me the area in sweden you live please, interested in the quarry type of work you do .the company i work for export buckets for big earth moving machines, theres a welder working this week in finland close to russian border not a happy chap 30pound for 10tins of small beers cheers bob

Hi blackbox. If you look on google you will see that i live about 90kms south of Gällivare.Iwork for LKAB in Gällivare. Not wishing to appear rude but i have written several times on various threads to drivers who have asked about work here in Lappland  .The problem is.First, most of them don’t even reply when i explain about life and work here so i am a little tired of explaining but will make one more attempt. :astonished: Here goes.
There is plenty of work up here for truck and heavy machine drivers,BUT you first have to seriously think about moving up here. :exclamation: Rental properties are scarce so you have to think about buying, not a problem as there are houses for as little as £20000 to buy  .Then you have to accept that you must emigrate here,it’s no good thinking to work for a time, then go home, they want long term people because there is a shortage of people with the mining sector expanding at a fast rate here. :open_mouth:
You have to radically change your mentality, here it is about 30yrs behind so they still have and '‘old fashioned’'work ethic. :open_mouth:
THEN we have winter from about October until May,with temps down to min 45c :open_mouth: sometimes, but if you like snowmobiling, skiing, and ice fishing your ok.
As i have explained to various people the best thing to do is to come up here for a holiday,go round to various companies, lay your stall out, what you want, what they want etc.Everyone is helpful so it’s not a problem and many speak English. The bureaucracy is quite relaxed[i bought and paid, and had all the papers done for my house in 4days]. If you need any more info let me know.Mike
Don’t forget it’s 3000kms north of London here so moving is almost like moving to Canada.

Thanks hutpik for your reply sorry if it caused you to much trouble,i was just interested in the machines thats there will get map up and have a look ,been up in the artic circle a few times summer and winter all on holiday with someone else driving thats the way to do it to old to be moving over thanks bob.

Hi Bob.No problem. If you are only interested in the machines up here you can go on internet to the sites of WWW.LKAB.SE .This is the company in Gällivare that i work for.It is an underground iron ore mine down to 1.5kms underground. It is owned by the Swedish gov and, together with the mine in Kiruna is one of the largest in the world.Another company here is AITIK who have an open cast copper mine also in Gällivare. There is also a company in Kaunisvaara with an open cast iron ore mine.Hope you can find something to look at. Mike

I’ve just come back from a week in Sweden. Had a delivery in Ludvika. Then after heading to Helsingborg, got called back for a backload from Vasteras. Which was 160 miles back up North. The roads were brilliant, hardly anything on the roads at all. Loads of places to stop. Spotless toilets in the most remote of areas! :open_mouth: The trucks are realy long by Euro standards. The ferries from Puttgarden to Rodby, then Helsborg- Helsinborg very good. Expensive though. In a 7.5t was 230 euro each way!
Wouldn’t fancy it in Winter though. :sunglasses:
