if I try put my digicard in it spits it out saying card error 50… It does this in slot 1 & 2 so maybe a card fault? Ive not used it for about 2 years… It worked fine back then…
Card error 50 is a bad card read, try cleaning the card particularly the chip with a soft cloth if you haven’t already, it’s always worked for me.
I have tried that but it didnt work… I thought maybe there is a problem with the tacho but it would be unlikely to be a problem on both slots… Perhaps order a new card before I fit it then…
Have you got the card up the right way? And have you locked-in your company card?
You definitely need to get the thing set up properly by a proper tacho person, because the VU contains all sorts of information about the vehicle, and presumably it’s currently got the information from the other vehicle in it. I’m not sure about the legality of driving it there now, either.

I need to apply for the company card yet. Will I need that straight away before i can drive it with my driver card? Yes it has all the old vehicle data in still so I know that needs to be sorted… The place that will be doing it is litterely 100 yrds from my house… He said calibration will set all the data, reg number, mileage (said it may accept the lower mileage or it may not but he will try) …

I think properly you should, because it will probably still be set up with the previous owner’s co card, which means you won’t be able to download any of the data recorded before you use your own co card. I guess if the previous owner locked out with their company card, or your tacho man can reset it into a ‘no company card’ state, then you’d at least be able to download the data.
I don’t really know what the law is about company smart cards, but you’ll need one within the next 56 days anyway, so you might as well get it organised pronto.
Your card reading error is nothing to do with the company card, though.

Thanks for that, Will get one applied for…
Perhaps I have a faulty card then… Its been in my wallet for the last 2 years with my driving license… Can understand why it would go faulty though… I thought at first it could be the tachograph but would it be unusual for both slots to not work? im sure i will find out when the tacho guy inserts his workshop card…

what part of this did you not understand?
shuttlespanker:
regarding having the KMs set to match the truck, if the KMs on the new tacho head are LOWER than that displayed currently on the truck, then the new tacho head can be set to match the current KMs, but you cannot lower the recorded KMs on the tacho head

I understood what you said… I was just quoting what the guy said to me on the phone when i booked it it…
Im presuming that it wont accept the mileage as thats what you had said in an earlier post…
Just been sat in the wagon and noticed that the tachograph has brought the trucks milage up to match its own mileage… The truck had done about 385000 now its saying 635878 same as the tachograph… Is that normal aswell?
if you fit a new tacho head, the truck will match the tacho head, if youi take it back out and refit the old one, it should revert back to the correct mileage

The truck doesn’t ‘have’ a mileage (well, obviously it does, but it doesn’t have an odometer to record it) - it just displays information which it gets from the tachograph. Same with speed - it gets that from the tachograph too.
Just wondering though… If I had bought a brand new tachograph would that then have brought the truck to ‘0’ or would that have to be brought up the the previous mileage?
if you had bought a brand new tacho head, it would have read zero miles, but this CAN be set to the correct mileage that the vehicle has done
with buying a second hand tacho head with higher mileage that your truck, it will more than likely make the truck show more mileage than it has actually done
to help with possible future sale of the truck, make a note of the actual mileage on the old tacho and the new mileage of the new tacho when it was fitted and keep them as a record so that the actual mileage can be calculated
