Beetlejuice:
Mercs are horribly harsh on the old bones .M.a.n’s are wallowy with a huge steering wheel .I would not want either after driving a volvo or two.But i would take the m.a.n to any Merc actros .The mercs look better, but they are not as good as they look imo .
I have driven 15 plates 66 plates,And brand new mercs at xpo .Awful unless you like bouncing down the roads
yep and it don’t matter if it bends or not both rigid 26t and Artic (driven both at work 66plts ) are the same , bouncier that a pair of page 3 knockers
I’m getting fed-up off mopping my tea up

Also I would add another negative to MAN’s is the massive wing mirrors which you have to be careful of approaching roundabouts etc
I know the pit falls of the mirrors as I used to drive a 26t MAN on a 2016 plate
The 2017 onward are a little better as there is a 4 ~ 5" gap between the N/S mirror and the N/S pillar, unless of course this is just because of the cab widths as the 61 plates are the full width cabs and the 17’s are the narrower ones.
The reason the Mercs ride is terrible is down to the 70 profile tyres.
Our new ones have been speced with 80’s and the ride difference is like night and day. It’s transformed the ride.
Being Agency I drive both. The Actros I don’t care for. Can’t Mercedes design a cab door that stays open instead of coming back on you all the time?
The MAN is the most comfiest truck to drive (as in sit in) of them all, although the protruding seat adjuster at the front is somewhat obtrusive. Having no sodding great engine cover protruding into the cab is good too. Their cruise control limiter is quirky but once you get used to it is great and IMO along with the XF they are the fastest motors on the road, though good trunkers. The steering wheel is huge like driving an old Bristol double decker bus.
It can be a tad slow coming off roundabouts and junctions and having the combined exhaust/service brake it’s a bit like driving your car.
The most irritating things are not having in cab wide angle mirror adjusters a la Daf, the silly door handles more suited to a Polski Fiat (for those that remember them) and no near driver 12v socket so you need to get a dropper (though there is one in pax side door well).
I drive MAN’s for Saints and if they are looked after are good. Also they don’t lollop as much as a bloody Actros.

As for the Actros door mine as my foot prints all over the bottle holder in door where I use my right foot to keep door open

Ours are a combination of either 5 (two main, two wide angle, top of passenger door ‘kerb view’ but not the front corner of windscreen blindspot one) or all 6 of them being adjustable.

Let’s be fair here, none of the manufacturers have ‘nailed’ the door issue. The Stralis are just as bad for it and so are Volvo. The DAF 105 doors don’t even open fully - they only go to about 80 degrees and that’s your lot! And with the Volvo and DAF doors being heavy they make it hard work to climb in and out of the cab if you have something parked next to you and unable to swing the door open fully, especially if you parked on a slight incline. Someone needs to design a strong adjustable wedge that you can use to prop the door open as you climb in and out rather than having to keep giving the door a nudge with your arse!

Ah that’s what they mean by three points of contact!
I’ve drove most things new and old as been on agency since I started. Drove plenty of actors and man. Been in this job 2 weeks and currently have a ‘15 tgx 480. It’s a great drive tbh, and nothing much gets past it on hills

im with you…im leaving 39k year job as i can not bear this [zb] MB anymore. MAN all the way!

The last 2 days has been lovely , not having to wait for the gearbox to make its mind up at roundabouts about which gear to be in and being able to pull the pin at any trailer height

Jeez mate you prioritise type of truck over a good rate of pay.?
I aint over the moon with my Merc, but there is no way that it would take precedence over my pay.
I only work to maintain living standards though, not to pose about in a fancy truck.
Had the truck for 3 days now and pleased to say I don’t miss the Merc as my cups stays full and dash stays dry , and I’ve got storage , plus don’t have to go mountain climbing to get in to cab
Also my rear end and back ache have gone and I haven’t had to adjust the suspension when pulling the pin
I partly lied about not missing Merc at all I miss the exhaust brake and my inverter (that will be refitted in to MAN)
Better than any merc .i got offered a job with DHL
The driving assessor told me i am sorry but we have 2015 + mercs .The assessment was in an earlier merc .
I abstained from taking the job .the early merc was ok tbf
The later mercs are ■■■■ .
Your m.a .n will serve you well.
