Surrey Traffic Cops

On ITV now.
Copper driving a white MAN unit, holding a radio in his hand talking to another copper. What the hell is the difference in him holding and using a radio to anyone else using a mobile phone?
One rule for them another for everyone else.

Crown Exemption rules apply.

So how does Crown Exemption Rules make it SAFE or acceptable for him and not anyone else?

About a £100 quid!

They’re just hypocritical public service parasites feeding from the taxpayer’s teat.

Of course it isn’t safe for them to behave in that way. But it’s like the way they will stop a truck on the hard shoulder if they smell the chance of £60 towards their pension fund, and that evening you watch Police Camera Action and they will be giving a pious lecture to somebody who has stopped on the hard shoulder because his toddler was bursting for a pee and they will explain that it’s for their own good because “life expectancy on the hard shoulder is nine minutes”.

The law as it stands is the rules for phones don’t apply to 2 way radio,cb etc

Two-way radios are specifically exempt from the relevant legislation (The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) (No. 4) Regulations 2003). This also applies to CB radio, walkie-talkies etc.

So, far from “one rule for them” it’s simply a case of “the same rule for all of us”.

Just as likely to distract a driver though, surely?

Are you sure about CB etc being exempt?

Isn’t it “Handheld communication devices” that can you can be penalised for? That includes CB’s, 2way’s, SatNav’s, Tablets, etc etc etc! I’m sure there was an “all encompasing” change in the law to cover the above.

So your CB must be “hands free” as much as your phone is! Mine is…not!

Yeah your cb is definitely exempt, if you take note you’ll see that the Top Gear crew now use them to talk to each other whilst on their road trips.

But, a zealous cop could do you for Due care if he chose to.

What “Crown Exemption”?

Cops work for the council, not The Crown. In the NHS I had a fleet that was not taxed or insured under Crown Exemption - Police cars are both.

… Or not in proper control of your vehicle…

They’re the police, they do what the zb they want when they want…:exclamation:

Police cars are specifically exempt from road tax and insurance. However, they display tax discs with zero duty paid. In addition, they are normally insured simply to avoid a mega-claim punching an enormous hole in the budget.
