Surrey quays

I seen a driver from work today and asked him
as anything changed at work. He told me of a
new place we go to surrey quays print which is
the mail newspaper contract. He said its not bad
finding its on surrey quays road not quebec way
like the address we get given. He said it getting
out thats the problem as the 17 ton rigids go over
the tower bridge which artics cannot due to the 18
ton limit which apparently incurs a £200 fine if ignored.
A few drivers have left due to this contract he said. He
said you use the dartford crossing at night which costs a
£1 and said artics use the A2 and vauxhall bridge he said
but he only drives rigids.

So any tips to a london newbie on getting in and out?
the trailer height is usually 14.2 but could be as high as 15.5.

This looks like the place -

This looks like a possible route in and a few
little changes to it comeing out -

A57
A1 South
A14
M11
M25
A282 Dartford crossing
M25 junction 2
A2 to Deptford church street(A2209)
A200 evelyn street
A200 lower road
bestwood, bush road, rotherhithe new rd, rotherhithe rd,
A200 lower rd again due to 1 way
surrey quays road

On my truck atlas there is no height restrictions on this route.

A few questions -

  1. Dartford crossing what is it like ie height restriction,
is it a tunnel, flyover, bridge. anything else to know about it?

  2. On the map the queen elizabeth bridge is near the dartford
crossing is this alternative to the dartford crossing

  3. which is best the crossing or the bridge. I would think the
crossing as the bridge could be closed sometimes due to the weather.

  4. I checked my route out and seen Deptford bridge(A2)
    any info on this bridge.

Convoy at dartford its a bridge on the southbound side and a tunnel northbound. £2.90 in an artic or £1 between 11pm and 6am.
I think its 4.8 mtr max in the tunnel

Convoy, gotta ask :open_mouth: but why do your postings come out squashed up to the left side of the screen? plays havoc with my widescreen laptop

Tiger.

your route is ok, i am from deptford, the dartford crossing is the bridge, the tunnels are ok height wise, deptford bridge is only called that because it runs over a small stream, there is no weight limit on it, good luck and stay safe.

If my height conversion chart what work gave me is correct
4.80 Metres is 15,9 in feet & inches so that’s not a problem.

Thanks JB

I do that for people with smaller monitors so they don’t have to scroll to read the text. any better

shooters hill road(A2) taking the (A2)rochester way/relief rd

Is there anything to note on the route I posted what could catch a 1st timer to that area out. furthest I have been is watford print so far.

yes convoy your route you have worked out is best, thats the one i would use.

although at night it would be a good job but during the day i wouldnt fancy it. going through london during the day i wouldnt bet on you doing sheffield to surry queys and back in a day.

when on for bedfords they do leeds to surry queys and back at night with your route of dartford crossing… in fact i would happly do that job every night.

i would go through the … whats it called the tunnel by the millienium dome… blackwall thats it i would go through the blackwall to surrey queys but you will be overheight coming back and have to use dartford crossing then. remember at night you have the lorry ban so you cant go through london then and also dont forget your congestion charge.

you come out of deptford up shooters hill to the top of blackheath common there used to be a cabbies tea hut 24hrs there. you come to the top of the A2 at the pub man over the water ( or something ) then turn right onto A2 and only a few miles to M25.

Thanks for the reminder on the congestion charge.

Whats blackwell tunnel like and can you use it at night?
Whats the toll plus how much time will it save compared to dartford crossing. I think work will want me going datford crossing way but its good to have choices.

If the rigids are going over tower bridge wont they be
entering the night ban?

Bedfords have a load of trucks in there every night,so if you see one, flag him down and ask him the easiest way into it.

Ken.

Going south is no problem, but you will not be able to use it if you want to go north there is a 4 meter limit

convoy:

there is no toll on the Blackwall tunnel
another alternative (day time only) is the Woolwich Ferry which is also free

the night ban only applies to vehicles over 18 tonnes and you can get exemption from the ban for any other vehicle if they have this permit

ceva tnt by by anychance convoy■■?
