Surrendering licence?

Hi everyone - A quick question - my cousin saw her specialist yesterday and he told her not to drive for a year. Would he automatically contact DVLA or will she have to give up her licence voluntarily?
She’s devastated by this as she is a pillar of the community who is always out and about picking people up and helping out. Her illness is a nerve thing so I wonder how he can say it’s for a year specifically.
Just wondered what she needs to do.
Thanks in advance
Dave

sorry to hear that dave.

I think you have to notify the DVLA of any changes in your health that can affect your driving.

this might help yout mate.

Cheers - have just sent her the link. Noticed that it said you could get fined for not disclosing info. What a wonderful caring world we live in eh?

Indeed. There are 10,000’s of car drivers unfit to drive through ill health who plow on regardless. My grandad was one of them. Had Alzheimers and was in no state to drive but still had his licence because nobody told DVLA. It’s farcical that a doctor can diagnose a serious condition but doesn’t have to inform DVLA.

You would think that the DVLA and NHS would work together to a degree - to much like common sense. If you asked the doc they would probably sigh dust of a thick book (which when it was published half the Amazon rain forest disappeared) from the shelf called “the a-z on the data protection law

Not the doc’s fault nor the DVLA’s…it’s all gone PC now.
:unamused:
