that was my first go in a new premium and they are still my least favourite truck not least for almost flipping me upside down when exiting because my left leg wouldnt fit between the seat and the steering column. i forgot to move the seat back a few times
the french should stick to what they are good at, NOTHING!
Ever thought of dieting, maybe loose a pound or three?
i have lost too much weight since last year. im trying to put it back on
there are 2 things i like about scannies. the cup holders and the angle of the steering wheel. the 5 series does beat the renault since it has a clutch pedal though. i have to give them credit for that. even MAN havent figured that one out yet
DAF should remove the auto as an option on the CF altogether. it just does not work in that truck. the XF seems to manage ok but the CF is either stop or go. there is no middle ground for reversing. i would rather have an AXOR than an auto CF and even if its one with a leaky sunroof.
i dont suppose renault have had a rethink with the steering wheel either have they? 5 stalks attached to the steering column
dogleg exhaust brake
indicators/lights
wipers
gearing
stereo/menu buttons
i lost count of the amount of times i rapped my fingers on the indicator stalk when i was going for the exhaust brake
Never driven a Scania, what is it about these trucks that is so fantastic? Have I spent the last forty years missing something?
Cup holder position, top of my priority when making a valid judgement about a truck!!!.
The monstrosity I drive daily is a vast improvement on the trucks when I started, at least I canāt see the road through the holes in the cab floor where the pedals go through!
Several Scania guys I know would commit suicide before driving a R*****t. I often wonder if Scania supply at no additional cost a brainwash kit.
Matron is calling me.
Les zizis des routiers sont sympas

pass! you will have to wait for someone who likes them to answer that one. im not a fan. my top 2 choices are both german marques followed by volvo then DAF. scania are ahead of renault and iveco but 5th place isnt exactly winning any medals

Funny enough, I find the Premiums very comfy to drive⦠
do you have a limb deficiency? nowhere to put your arms since it was optidrive and no arm rests and the steering column is practically against the seat. speaking of arm rests, why does the XF have them on the passenger seat when the TGA has them on the drivers seat? the door does serve well as an arm rest though as its the right height, not so with the premium of course
today would have been a good day to see lots of trucknet members. it would have given me somewhere to put my left arm. waving it around would have been better than having it reaching for the ciggies
Cant believe that drivers are slating a lorry because its go āno arm restsā FFS
A lot of the switches in there look like the ones from the new FL. Iād sooner have a Volvo or a MAN than a Renault but if Iām being paid the same money to drive it I wouldnāt give a toss. Or maybe anything looks good when you drive a five year old FL-220.
i agree with you Tofer but its always more pleasing to drive something you like. if you dont like it, have a right good rant about it
the FL220 sounds posh compared to the N reg FL618 i used to drive 5 1/2 years ago and its gotta be better than the 52 reg MAN LE220s that rank hovis used to have (might still have them). i hated those things. massive steering wheel and sod all leg room and about as comfortable as a stinging nettle up the crevice

We did have an LE as a hire motor for a while, and it was horrible, if anyone wonders where knackered trucks from Brakes go when they get sent back, they get sent to us as spot hires. The 51 plate Eurocargo was about the worst.
I like premiums, easy to drive and comfortable, like a big laguna. Not much room inside though. Could be much worse⦠could be an IVECO!
Then again I like EC11ās
I was quite impressed with the stereo display being integrated into the instrument panel on the premium I drove last week, think it was an 03 model but not too sure.

Many a member has commented on how good the stereo system is in the premium

A bloke called Scanny reckons he knows what makes a bad truck
Do us a favour
My granny could get that padlock off with her gums

Any self respecting criminal knows a sharp tap on the side of those ten bob locks springs it open
As for the wheel brace

The Bronx
If you have it you got to be prepared to use it .
I aint going to risk my life for my bosses truck .
Twelve odd years on Class one fridge work , i havent been gassed , robbed, kidnapped or threatened.
i drive a premium, agree the mirrors would be better the other way round. Especially as even with the bottom one adjusted right up all i can see is the diesel tank
As for arm rests, im quite tall and they are nowhere near my arms anyway so no use me having them. The bonus for me is the head rest, normally the bit that should be where your neck is digs into the top of my back so a flat seat is so much more comfey for me.
Auto box, well you just have to kinda get used to it, learn to drive the machine to get what you want.
Otherwise it always goes, quite, warm when i turn the warm dial and cool when press the cool button, its the 450hp model and drives easily enough. What else do i need?
It surely cant be that bad as the cab is also used by DAF and Volvo have nicked it for the FE
bear in mind that there is a remarkable resemblance between the old premium and the DAF LF which DAF didnt fit to tractor units. the new one isnt much different. to be fair, they have relocated the tacho which was in front of your right knee. not the easiest place to access it once you are in the cab and i bet there are plenty of people here who have bashed their knee on it when climbing in after the last driver left the tacho drawer sticking out. southampton council guys were always moaning about it (LF 7.5 tonners)
Fair point my Volvo cab is full of items with Renault badges on them even the steps are Renault badge engineering is bloody everywhere and bloody boring!!!

Not only your truck, have a look under your car, you will find that Renault make the chassis for most manufacturers
Thats the problem these days no one can spend the money to create individual vehicles, like the DAF Lf, Volvo FE and FL even Seddon Atkinson ended up as Ivecos with an A on the bonnet same with cars mine is a Vauxhall with a Fiat engine and some cars are used by 3 or 4 different manafactures

Actually youāll find that it is an Opel with a Fiat engine and Vauxhall badges.
