Surprised a wannabe trucker

robroy:
Tbh I ain’t TOO bothered at the moment for the reasons you’ve pointed out, but when (or if) things get back to normal I too want the football afternoons in the pub.

There is talk of weekend work being for an initial 18 weeks to cover massively increased volumes, as I’m told they did £92M last week and are pushing for sales in excess of £130M p/w during the summer, 1 store I was at yesterday is doing £150K over budget so not bad for essential lockdown sales.
But after the 18 weeks it may revert back to Monday-Friday, but as I’m not missing the pub scene anyhow that doesn’t matter. The fact is that once they get these new drivers the agency drivers will get less work so now maybe the time to hang up the limp for a while after 18yrs for a decent income

I’m under no illusions that the money im earning, for the time I spend away from home and hours put in isnt great. But, 4 years ago when I made the change from 5x 8hr shifts in an ink factory i was counting the days till pay day as I just couldn’t earn enough. Since doing this job doesn’t allow much spare time anyway, :unamused: , whilst I’ve been a driver we’ve bought a house, car, been on numerous holidays and money really isn’t a concern in normal everyday life. If we want somet we get it. All whilst on £12 an hour.

I don’t get to Sunday dreading the next days work- i don’t look forward to it for sure, but it’s just An OK job and I feel that’s about as good as it gets.
